Didn't know that, suddenly interested again.

They showed the trailer twice before Prometheus, the 2nd one made me sleepy

Talking Reviews

Movie is getting good reviews out there. Whatever it is, movie visually looks spectacular based on all the critic reviews.

My review (no spoilers):

Quote:

Life of Pi (2012)
dir. Ang Lee
The Good: Visually stunning. Impressively realistic-looking CGI. That entire shipwreck sequence... Just wow. Guaranteed jaw-dropper. Visually stunning. Suraj Sharma; potential Oscar dark horse. Richard Parker. Those adorable meerkats. Some really intense and emotional sequences. The musical score. Visually stunning.

The Bad: Might be a little too sentimental and religious for some. Kind of rambles and stumbles during the final act.

The Bottom Line: For a two-hour film that's mostly about a boy and a tiger stranded in the middle of nowhere, Life of Pi manages to entertain for the most part while also treating its viewers to some of the finest eye candy to hit the big screen. Worth the price of admission for the cinematography and special effects alone.

Yeah, saw it in 3D. The reason I didn't mention it is because, overall, it was just okay. Nothing mind-blowing or game-changing like Avatar 3 years ago. Also, only a few scenes were really in 3D. I also gotta add that there were more noticeable aspect ratio changes in this than in Nolan's Dark Knight movies. There was even one scene that was oddly shot in portrait mode.

Can't wait to see this one, but since it is in 3-D, and cinemas here most probably won't even play it in 2-D, I'll have to wait for the BD again.

Unfortunately, my cinema only has 2D showings at 1 in the afternoon, so it looks like I'll be paying the extra $3 for the gimmick. Although I gather this was shot in 3D so maybe it'll be alright.

I very much enjoyed Life of Pi. Even more than the novel, I thought the film was very Indian (and not merely because of its early setting); it is a deeply spiritual and thoughtful story. The narrative is very strong, the visuals are stunning, and Richard Parker is entirely believable. Highly recommended!

Any film that makes me recall The Black Stallion comes highly recommended. I had a huge smile throughout. The actual adventure part of the story is near perfect (even if you have to slog through some of the Ang Lee pretense, all faiths lead to the same creator nonsense).

Edit: I even thought the depiction of faith was interesting. The images are what provide the film substance in this regard. Faith is much alike the world Ang Lee creates: lush, comforting & soothing. It wraps a blanket around you and opens your eyes to the magic and beauty of this world.

I may not be converted at the end, but did I ever go on an amazing journey. It makes me want to buy a 3D tv just for this film.

I am yet to watch the movie, but as a reader of the book what you are saying is not really true. Its not about a common god or same creator, its just speaks about having faith in some higher power, so even in the wildest situation you still have hope and be sane.

I think I express this in my second paragraph. It seems as if the material is more about the necessity and empowering qualities of faith as opposed to it's tangibility and veracity. Thanks for calling out my rushed error.

Right choice of words. Whatever the movie is, its nice to hear a Director has finally used 3D as part of the storytelling not just as a gimmick.

It was okay. I suppose if I was into animals and feelings I would have liked it more.

Really wanted to see this in 3D, but due to a technical glitch at my theater my only option was 2D. Beautiful movie. I'll pick up the 3D blu-ray on day one.

I loved this movie so much. Visually incredible, the acting is top notch, and the story is heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. I really wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. It's going to be in my top 5 favorites of 2012 for sure.
