This list can't be true because it has the Tomball, Texas Santikos theater as real Imax and it is NOT it is one of the smaller screens

That's one of the places that used to be digital only but has now installed a 15/70 film projector. You're right, though -- the place can show film, but the screen is not as large as a museum IMAX screen.

Ah, sorry to hear about that. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the movie.

Only IMAX I've ever been to in my life when I was 10. The one in New Mexico and it was an "educational" film. Holy sickness.

These digital IMAX screens are still quite large and nice though, right? RIGHT?

Well if i move really close to my 46" screen it seems a whole lot bigger

IMAX to me is everything, and not just scale. Your talking video AND audio quality both in the source and the equipment which just happens to include larger screens.

I don't know if this is standard to all real IMAX but at mine they demo for you, they fade out the perforated screen showcasing the speaker clusters behind, then they run one hell of a sound demo before every flick. They fill you in on fun facts about the equipment such as balistics gear being used to change lamps, and the quality of film, specs of the projector etc... Its not just a movie on a big screen, in fact its quite a lot more. Quality in relation to my brand new 16 cinema house does not even compare on either audio or video grounds.

Yes. I saw The Dark Knight Rises in a Cinemark XD theater (2.40:1) and an AMC lieMAX (1.78:1 for the IMAX scenes). The lieMAX was definitely better than the XD, though the XD was pretty impressive as well. I will try to see it at the Bob Bullock 15/70 IMAX when I am in Austin in August.

I know that everyone complains about Cinemark XD, AMC ETX, AMC lieMAX, etc. for the extra money that is charged, but at the same time, seeing any movie on as big of a screen as possible is better than seeing a movie in a rat hole 7 weeks into its theatrical run.

So on this website: http://diaramble.com/Post/IMAX/171/D...-The-fake-IMAX

the IMAX theater near me says "1570 DIG" - when I go to that website it shows a movie, like the Dark Knight Rises, in IMAX or Digital Cinema, I should select IMAX showing, right?

I guess I'm trying to figure out why some are listed on this website as "1570", "1570/4k" and "1570 DIG" - lol I just want to see a movie, like the Dark Knight Rises, on TRUE IMAX

That website took its information from a much better website.

http://www.lfexaminer.com/theaUSA.htm

If a theater is listed as only 15/70, then it was originally designed as a giant screen to show educational movies (like science documentaries). These theaters will offer the biggest IMAX experience.

If a theater is listed as DIG, then it is one of the smaller lieMAX screens.

If a theater is listed as both 15/70 and DIG, then it was once a digital-only lieMAX screen that has now added a film projector.

The only IMAX theater I've ever been to was the one at the California Science Center. I went on a field trip in 4th grade to the Body Works exhibit and I got to see an educational film about child birth in IMAX

I saw The Dark Knight Rises in ETX at the AMC Burbank 16 on Monday and I decided to sneak into their LieMax afterwards to see how it looked and I was severely disappointed by the screen size. It is small! I knew that I shouldn't have expected a full on IMAX screen but this was tiny.

I might be checking it out at the IMAX in Citywalk sometime this week.

What a difference, Digital IMAX showing you almost didn't notice the IMAX scenes due to the smaller screen. The 15/70 showing yesterday was incredible due to the way bigger taller screen, plus the 70mm print looked great, very clean. If you have one close, 15/70 IMAX is a must for TDKR.
If you have a real imax 15/70 GT cinema somewhere near ,you must see TDKR this way.Unlike most blockbusters this was film specifically to take advantage of Imax 15/70 film ,quality, detail and ultra high resolution.
Most film for Imax are upscaled (blowup) using their DMR process from a 2k or 4k DI and can and will look soft as Imax is approx 12k to 15k visible.(This is made worse for me as sydney Imax is the worlds largest screen 29.5m x 35.3m wide). They are also far brighter 22ftL,DCI spec is 14ftL +-3 for 2d(4.5ftL 3d )
http://www.film-tech.com/ubb/f14/t000191.html

I have seen this twice now 1 imax and on a 4k barco with 60ft screen (next best option if no Imax 15/70 near) and while the 4k barco is the best DCI projector and the films quality shows, with the Imax it is far more immersive with greater picture detail,.color and contrast.Far better than any digital system.Digital Imax is 2x 2k projectors which for 3d might be ok,when they go to 2 x 4k barco,s then it be good for most feature films and improve 3d brightness(Those not film with Imax 15/70 film) .

At home we can get a very good picture for not much money,Imax is not possible for Home unless very weathy.Imax GT projector is approx 1.6million each(2 need for Imax 3d) an Imax print cost approx $30k to $55k per print etc.
Barco 4k is approx $100k to $150k all up installed ,35mm prints are approx $1500 and digital DCI is approx $175 only each.

I'm going to see this at the IMAX - Rivercenter in San Antonio on Saturday. That's a 2 hour drive, but I know that one is a film 15/70 venue.

Went to see batman, and it was a sold out theatre and by the time we got in as a party of 4 we could either seperate or sit in the second to front row which was way to close. Still a hell of a time and my friends who had never been to a REAL imax before were cheesing it from beginning to end.

Yeah, some places that used to be Digital IMAX are now adding film projectors. They can switch between digital and film using a "rail" system. They will show 15/70 if a movie was shot with IMAX cameras (Mission Impossible 4, The Dark Knight Rises, etc.).

The Hunger Games was shot in 35mm, and Lionsgate didn't want to create film prints for its initial theatrical release. Thus, the movie was shown in Digital IMAX.

Because of this, the Bob Bullock IMAX in Austin did not show The Hunger Games because it is a film-only theater.
rumour has it, that select scenes for the next Hunger Games movie will be shot with 15/70 IMAX cameras.

Ok so the Regal Mall of Georgia Stadium 20 & IMAX that opened last year is listed as 15/70+DIG in OPs site so I called down there and they said they are playing the movie in FILM, and that their screen demensions are 6 STORIES X 8 STORIES. That sounds like a real IMAX. Also, IMAX site says it is a 15/70 theater. Can anyone confirm this? My main concern is I want to see it projected in 15/70 film, and I want the IMAX scenes in the proper ratio.

One of the theaters in Austin (a Regal Gateway 16) recently added an "IMAX" screen.

I haven't gone to see a moive in thier IMAX yet, but I did pop my head in a few weeks ago and that screen looks smaller than the newly added XD screen that our Tinsletown 20 added a couple of years back. It looks much smaller than "real" IMAX screen at the downtown Bob Bullock theater.

So, yeah, I would call Gateway's a "fake" IMAX.

Then that list is not accurate then.

Regal New Roc Stadium in NY is a real IMAX theater. It has been since it opened. They now switched to digital but the screen is still large.

Now im confused.
