Avengers lacks a credible villain, suspense, and intriguing plot. It's basically a video game. A very fun video game, but nothing more.

The Dark Knight Rises transcends the superhero genre while also playing up the comic book nature of the property all at the same time. An amazing achievement and the best film in the series.

That was my first thought when I voted as well. I think it may partially have to do with some not believing that you can like both Marvel and DC at the same time.

I can't decide! I did wish batman was in more of the movie though, with new tech from the fantastic Mr. Fox.

TDKR. Iron man was a better film than Joss Whedon's Transformers

Here's how I see it, if someone were to tell you about the Avengers film before you saw it you would still love it and be impressed. If someone did that with TDKR it would take away from the experience because of the twists and characters. Based on that, I feel the Avengers is the more enjoyable film.

I kinda find that a bit silly tbh. I think if somebody told me what to expect in either movie i'd be extremely annoyed, but i guess your kinda right, with a movie like TDKR with quite a few more twists than Avengers, it's gonna be doubly annoying.

That said, i think it could factor in to how disappointed you become with a movie, moreso based on being told by somebody what's to come rather than the movie doing an inadequate job of setting them up.

TDKR is by no means perfect, but i think for a lot of people, it edges out Avengers overall as a movie and that's what this poll is determining. Which was the better movie overall.

Avengers was a significant feat though, and i can't say anything ill towards it as i loved it. Just had a slight pacing issue second time round for me, and the stakes didn't feel as high as TDKR, as well as perhaps a few other factors, so for me, it was a small notch below. I'd given TDKR 10/10, but i'd settle no lower than 9.5/10, while Avengers is a solid 9/10, but no greater than 9.5/10 for me personally.

The real irony is that we're here judging which movie of two amazing films is better. Apples to oranges perhaps?

love them both, but to me Avengers is near flawless while there were quite a few little bits here and there in TDKR that bothered me.

TDKR for me.

I liked Avengers a lot as well, but I vastly prefer serious dramas to more light hearted popcorn flicks.

And I take the greatest possible exception to the fact that "Amazing Spider-Man" was not included in this poll.

Not that it's my favorite of the three, mind you.

they were great, but I lean to TDKR for the realism, movie felt grounded by comparison. Superior villain ;-)

Default The Dark Knight Rises

Saying The Avengers is better than The Dark Knight Rises is a respectable opinion, but calling it better than The Dark Knight is just hard to take seriously.

First of all, the former is basically just another popcorn-flick. An entertaining one with amazing action sequences, but nevertheless a popcorn-flick. On the other hand, Christopher Nolan completely transcended the superhero genre by giving it more emotion and character development. Say what you will, but I think The Dark Knight Rises is better, and that The Avengers doesn't compare to The Dark Knight.

Both were awesome movies, But I liked more TDKR than The Avengers. First it had a more dark and serious story, unlike The Avengers which it had alot of scenes that had comedy.

Rises is the better movie...but Avengers is a ton of fun

They are opposite ends of the spectrum of well done comic book movies.

Rises was made to be a more thoughtful, serious nature take on a superhero.
Avengers was made to be a comic book come to life, loud, shiny and a heck of a ride.

Both succeeded...though neither is the best in its respective series.

Who cares if u dont peoples opinions seriously. What if I said I didnt take your opinion seriously would u care? Would it make u change your mind? That type of stuff isnt needed in the discussion. Just basically say which film is better in your eyes and give some details why and keep it movin. Hatin is not needed. Just some notes man. Got Em!!

So because one film is darker makes it better? Ok well which film is better between Watchmen & Iron Man? Or Watchmen & Blade? Basically what I am getting at is not all dark films are better than films that have a lighter tone. That is just nonsense. Its the quality of the film that matters no matter what tone it has. I dont mind people saying that TDKR is better than the Avengers, but when they say its better because its darker I just dont feel that! I can go for things like maybe the story being better, better acting, better villain etc.....but just because of the darkness doesnt hold much weight for me. Got Em!!

TDKR had so many plot holes it, ruined the movie.

Lets have cable TV set up in a giant pit located which is supposed to be secluded.

Lets have an army of cops survive in sewers for 5 months eating sewer rats and drinking poop water.

Lets have commissioner Gordon survive a crash in the bank of the van with not a scratch.

Shame on Nolan, these are only a few of my qualms, BANES VOICE = SO BAD.

Avengers = The Win.

Had to be cable? Couldn't be satellite?

The cops were being given food. What bothers me is how clean their uniforms were after 5 months
