Is there a reason why the French disc got a whole point higher on audio than the US release? Or is it the same audio track?

Different reviewers? Most sites don't directly compare international releases, unless there are known differences.

That's what I'm assuming. I just always like to make sure when it's a big difference like 4.5 vs 3.5.

Should I pick this up or wait for Criterion?

The movie looks great. I don't think that Criterion could do a lot to improve what is already very good. I purchased the Blu-ray this year.

Plus the fact that Criterion doesn't have the rights to it, and probably never will again.

Just wanted to confirm that the Studio Canal version of this movie is a digibook as I see a few on ebay that appear to be digi's (which I prefer) vs clamshell, any help is appreciated !

The US release is a standard case, while the international ones comes in a hardbound Digipak. It's sort of like a thin Digibook, but the it just has the disc on a hub, and a booklet that either comes in a little folder on the left side, or glued to the left side in some countries. Most of the older StudioCanal relases are like that (The Pianist, Mulholland Drive, Deer Hunter, Le Cercle Rouge, etc...)

OK thanks for the heads up at least I know what to ask the seller now, but it appears to be the digi which I prefer

Have anyone received the new UK blu-ray from Studio Canal that was released today? I'm wondering if it has the "The Little Match Girl" 1928 short that was included on the French disk.

Thanks

Canada Re-release

Is the re-release of the film region-free, or at least A&B locked?

Studio Canal usually tends to region-lock their discs.

That's unfortunate. But is it B-locked, or A+B locked?

Does this one have the commentary that was on the old Criterion DVD?

I have both the 2012 Studio Canal Blu-ray and the Criterion DVD, and I do not see any duplication of Special Features (unless they are the restoration demo or trailers).

Very rarely are Criterion commentaries ported except some of the laserdisc commentaries.

Ok, so I picked up the recent re-release of the Studio Canal "Grande Illusion" several months ago. I had yet to pop it in and watch it. After seeing this thread I decided to at least put it in the player to verify it's region coding and take a glance at the extras. However, I have run into a very weird issue. It won't play back on my modified OPPO 203. I modified my player about 4 years ago and have been playing region B discs without any issue during that time. When I put this disc in, though, I get the region B warning like I would if the player was set to region A. I verified the player is, indeed, set to region B and tested several other discs. All worked fine. I tried the disc on the other two regions and I get the same region B warning. The disc will not play in any of the regions. Has anyone seen something like this before? I gotta believe there is something wonky with the disc. Just to confirm, I have this version:

I had a similar experience with a few Eureka discs that were encoded by Silversun ("Coming Home", "Marty") on my region free Samsung player. My solution I found was setting it to A, power off, power back on, and set to B. There is also pressing the STOP button twice and then pressing play (though, in my experience the player would freeze up on the region-lock screen).

Thanks for the reply! Interesting. Not sure if the power on/power off method will help my situation as the OPPO mod already requires me to toggle power when changing regions (kind of a pain. I hate the unnecessary power toggle putting wear and tear on the logic board). Will definitely give the STOP button method a try, though! Gonna post over in the OPPO 203 thread and see if anyone else has had this problem with the player.

I'm wanting to order this one but I wanted to make sure all the extras were included that were onthe old disc? I assume so but thought I would ask to be sure?
