Thank you OP. Good looking out.

I just ordered it.

I like this one because it looks like the preview poster I saw in the theaters over the summer. The one that BestBuy had just looked like the regular Blu-ray but printed on a steelbook.

If the 2D and 3D are on the same disc, they'd do that. If it's a choice if making it a 2-discer, both Blu or a 2-dicser with 1 Blu and 1 DVD then that's the preferred option. I myself would much rather have a Blu-ray/DVD combi as I only have 1 Blu-ray player and none of my firends do.

3D still isn't popular enough to make it the default option, especially when offering it in 'funky' packaging. They want the sales a steelbook will generate, which far outweighs the ones in 3D.
It doesnt make marketing sense...why cut out the 3D market when you could have those additional sales?

Maybe because the distributors hope that people will buy the steelbook because of the packaging, and they might get some consumers who'll then buy the 3D version anyway.

They must be aware that a lot of collectors don't even open their steelbooks or buy extra copies so they generate far more revenue from that than they do from 3D purchasers.

As I say, 3D is very much the minority when it comes to home entertainment options in the same way that DVD still outsells Blu-ray. In this case, Sony might think that the hardcore 3D purchasers will buy a steelbook as well as the 3D release, or just 'put up and shut up' with a 2D option.

It's fair to say, that a lot of consumers still like Blu-ray/DVD combi's (just look at the arguments on the Disney thread) more than they do a 2D and a 3D Blu-ray disc in the same box. The only film I have with 2D and 3D on the same dics is Ghost Rider: SoV. It's also the only disc I have that stutters at the hour mark (every time) and the sound goes out of synch unless I pause it.

Good I hope they never release another 3D movie, it's about time the fad died.

Until confirmed otherwise I'm saying this will include the 3D copy. Thats the only reason it can be a 2 disc Blu-ray. The regular 3D copy is 2 Blu 1 2D BD + 1 3DBD

Why HMV haven't stated it is 3D is beyond me. Either way pre ordered it at £15 so they cant charge me more if they put the price up.

Yeah, if this is the 3D version, that will be amazingly good luck. If not, meh, you can always cancel or sell off the disks to keep the case

I'm not as confident as you are about it but I'm thinking/hoping the same thing. I have it pre-ordered, just in case. If not I still have the Sainsburys 3D pre-order at the same price and having this film in 3D trumps having it in a steelbook for me.
