First Class is regarded so highly because X3 was so horrible.

Avengers for the win. It has more to it than the haters would like to admit.

Both great, but 'The Avengers' gets it.

The Avengers gets overrated a little simply because it culminates from the five Marvel films preceding it. If that had been the first Marvel movie, it wouldn't rank as highly. First Class was great considering how poorly done X3 turned out.

That's exactly the point of The AVENGERS and why Marvel hit it out the park with this vehicle. It's part of a continual saga that is The MARVEL UNIVERSE and as such is without equal

As for X-Men First Class ......... While I enjoyed the origin stories of Magneto and Professor X outside of Raven and the Beast the cast of characters that comprised the first class paled in comparison to those in the previous trilogy. And they didn't seem to add much to the story at all for which it is named

How is this even a poll? Avengers is INFINITELY better. XMFC was the worst of all X-films, and was just complete crap IMHO. And this coming from a longtime huge X-Men fan.

Fun thread.

I voted X-Men: First Class, although I enjoyed both flicks. X-Men: First Class appeals more to my love of spy/espionage movies, though, and I love the undercurrent of sadness and inevitability that led to the characters teaming up the way that they did.

My three favorite "superhero" movies...

1. Superman II
2. X-Men: First Class
3. The Avengers

Looking at this, it's apparent that I hold both in high esteem.

I have to say that I was impressed by The Avengers in a big way. The Marvel films have all had a common shortcoming in that the first hour of each film is amazing, with the origin story and character development, but each film falls into boredom, sub-par computer effects, and weak villains in the second half. The Avengers broke the trend by keeping me interested all the way through, from the beginning to the end. Not bad at all!

First Class is the overall better film.

Avengers is fun in a novelty sort of way, but fails to go any deeper than 'these guys are good because they are fighting those bad guys because those bad guys are bad'. It's literally that simple.

X-Men: First Class I enjoy re-watching this one (it might be they also relate to these characters more). The Avengers I only cared to watch once (it wasn't bad)
