I've already ordered the steelbook. It's the first instance of me buying strictly for the case since it will be region locked. I really hope it doesn't become a habit!
![]() So, now I just need to wait on the NA release pre-order until something else in my wishlist drops to a reasonable price so I can get free shipping. I doubt this will be a very limited print, so I'm not too worried about waiting it out. Something on my wishlist always drops every couple of months. ![]() |

Not quite exact frames, but here's a few HQ screengrabs from the FLYING DOG JP import to give you an idea how it stacks up against Sentai Filmworks transfer:
http://imageshack.us/a/img14/8633/jubei01jp.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img163/5448/jubei02.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img5/8821/jubei03.jpg In short, the JP release has DVNR too. The US version might be slightly sharper, even, but without doing a proper 1:1 comparison, I wouldn't want to say one is better than the other. "Both are very similar" is what you should take from this, and whatever slight advantage the insanely high JP bitrate might theoretically bring to the table, I doubt it's worth paying 4 times as much! ![]() NINJA SCROLL has never had a "true" 5.1 mix for the Japanese audio materials, so don't worry too much about it. Manga Video upmixed the stereo tracks for their DVD years ago, but the results don't sound any different than what you'd get using the Dolby ProLogic II mode on any decent surround receiver. Japan has only started to embrace 5.1 in the last few years, and most TV shows (ie: the vast majority of anime produced) are still typically stereo. And as for why it's not "WIDESCREEN"... well, it was an OVA, which means "Original Video Anime". It was framed for 4:3 TVs and released straight to video in 1992, so the only way to make it widescreen is to chop off 25% of the image. Manga Video did that, too, when they released their Special Edition DVD years ago. ![]() |

To be fair, the 10th anniversary edition provided both the original aspect and the cropped widescreen version on the same release... ![]() Last edited by biznus97; 11-25-2012 at 08:50 PM. Reason: correct anniversay edition listed |
