Yea I like Bay's Transformer movies, He is good at capturing a sublime in his imagery, I look to devastator in tf2, or the aircraft carrier in the same movie, he knows how to blow things up haha.

TF3 left an impression, easier to read, I enjoyed Shockwave's driller companion The Island was one of his better movies in terms of story and visual composition, curtailed slightly after I saw Logan's Run :/

Ridley Scott - He makes movies with substantial scripts and uses CGI to back up the story - others tend to make movies for the CGI with the plot and script a poor second... IMHO

BTW... What happened when he made Prometheus? The sequel will mostly likely make sense of the original movie? Actually I take that back... just managed to watch the movie on Blu-Ray. Absolutely love it! Glad it was not a "prequel" to the Alien movie but stands on its own. It belongs in the same "universe" but in my opinion in time it may be seen as a much better film.

not the best choices to compare... they're all very different and excel at different things

visuals? Ridley Scott
action - Bay
scale - Cameron
storytelling - Nolan
characters/dialogue - Whedon

I'll agree that the Island is Michael Bay's best work in all departments, but Spielburg and Cameron are probably the best overall for visuals

I am not a fan of Ridley Scott overall, but visually speaking, his style is amazing. Legend is one of the most overwhelmingly gorgeous visual feasts I've ever seen. Blade Runner and Prometheus also look spectacular.

Now if he only had better taste in scripts...

Of the names mentioned on the list I would go with Ridley Scott but Stanley Kubrick really made the first film with amazing visuals when he made 2001: A Space Odyssey. While I'm not a huge fan of the film I understand it's importance in film history.

Ridley Scott would win on Alien & Blade Runner alone

Cameron for me with Scott as a close 2nd. Cannot wait to see what the Avatar sequels look like once they're finally out.

Nolan
Cameron
Scott
Bay
Whedon

As bad as Bay's movies are, he at least has a style. Whedon's work could have been done by anyone, visually speaking.

Of these I think only Scott should really be in the discussion for directors who've made the best looking films, mostly based on his earlier career.
