Depends.
What makes it "truly worth it"? All I'm using my player for is popping in a disc and watching a movie. In what way would I gain anything by spending at least 3 times the money on an Oppo?

Each individual will be different but I can state my Oppo has been worth it for me. I've never had an issue with playing any title on my Oppo 83, it can be made region free, it supports SACD, and it also plays and/or converts PAL and 50Hz content. Oppo also has exceptional customer service in the event you need to contact them. Well worth it for an all in one player which hasn't given me any problems.

I already have a region free DVD-player. Several, in fact - I don't want to buy another one just for the upconverting ability, I'm looking to buy a blu-ray player!

I imported a bog standard US BD player from amazon.com - and prepaid the tax / customs. Worked out at just over £100 which is what people charge for mods these days :P

I don't worry about Japan / Korea since they have good releases in the UK for the most part, if not, it is region free.

But aren't Korea and Japan Region A these days anyway? And so's Hong Kong AFAIK.

Region C seems to equal Region 5 and there's like maybe one title from region 5 that dvdcompare actually listed as the best version...and I can't even remember which one.

But yeah, I'm thinking about importing a blu-ray player from US Amazon as well sometime down the road once I get a player that can at least play region B/2.

Ouch, I guess $500 (£309) is better than £500 ($807). Are you able to afford a NA Oppo?

£120.

Comes boxed with everything, you just change the region code with the remote.

There's a picture of it in my HT gallery.

Really ?

I don't know what it's worth to be honest. Yeah it's a 2 year old model but it's still a very good player. Cost me over £300 when i bought it.

I have just seen it. Does it come Region-Free from the factory or was that done by the seller?

Also, does it play 1080/50i (50 Hz) blu-ray discs?

I found the player and I'll ask you because it doesn't specify on there, but does it support 7.1?

Thank you, I did not know it was manufactured region free. I thought the seller had done something to make it that way.
