Hello there ! i searched for this kind of thread and found some , but i wanted to explain my own problem too , cause it's a bit weird !
As many ,i have some signal loss while playing movies (bd,dvd, divx) on my ps3 My ps3 is one year old ! it is linked to an okyo amplifier via hdmi ! The onkyo is linked to a plasma (panasonic) The sound is from the plasma tv to the onkyo via optical (as the onkyo is just old enough to not be able to make sound pass through hdmi) So far all was fine , movies of all kind and supports ran well ! Last month i unplugged all the stuff to change my tv furniture ! All was fine again ! But 3 weeks ago i began to have an issue ! At the middle of a movie , or ,most of the time , at the beginning (about 10 minutes) , my tv shows me the big black screen with "No signal" !! At first i just had to wait a bit and the signal came back , but for about 1 week ago the signal is lost for ever , i have to shut the ps3 down , restart and then all is fine ![]() I made some tests and it 's definitively not coming from the tv or amplifier! All my settings on the ps3 are the same as ever! I was wondering if it could come from an update (two since the furniture change) or from an hdmi cable degradation (strange though) But why at a certain time and why it doesn't occur anymore after a reboot ? Well if someone has an aswer !! thanks a lot! (you can aswer in french as i am french ![]() |

no , i just shutt down it by pressing a brief time , then i wait until everything is quiet and i press power on again !
the ps3 doesn't seem to be stuck in fact : the movie continue to run (as when i resume it after reboot , the movie continued ) though i don't have any control on the movie (it seems) when the signal is lost ! but i can shutt the ps3 normal way (not having to hold the button for 5sec) Last edited by lothian; 02-15-2011 at 10:11 PM. |

You've tried hooking the PS3 directly to the tv and the issue still persists? Have you ruled out both HDMI cables by connecting the PS3 directly to the tv with one cable then the other? Does your Onkyo receiver only have one HDMI in? If not, have you tried using another input? Do you have another device you can try hooking up to the input you currently have the PS3 on your plasma or is there another input you can try?
If all those fail, I'd probably see if you can get the PS3 itself serviced. |

the onkyo has 2 or 3 hdmi receivers : the ps3 is linked to the onkyo and from it the main hdmi cable goes to the tv .
Indeed , i didn't try switching imputs to see if it improves . i'll try this ! but i really wonder why suddenly things went wrong and most of all , why after switching the ps3 off and on again the issue goes away for the remain of the movie.... ![]() i'll test different imput assignations and different imput plug-in and see if it resolve the issue , thanks ! |

There's nothing the Onkyo will do with that HDMI video signal that will improve its quality, so you might as well plug the HDMI cable directly into your TV anyhow. It's entirely possible that either the TV, PS3, or the receiver have developed a problem with their HDMI circuitry. Removing the Onkyo receiver from the chain will at least tell you whether it is the receiver that is the problem.
As for the sound, you must have typed something wrong - you're saying your cabling is from the TV to the receiver? I'm going to assume you meant PS3 -> Onkyo receiver over optical, with the TV muted, yes? Switching the PS3 on/off causes a new HDMI handshake attempt, so whatever is happening, there's a handshaking problem somewhere between your PS3, receiver, and TV - and the most likely culprit is your receiver. |

ok i see what you mean . In fact the thing is that besides the ps3 i have a numeric receiver but i don't use it . that's why the ps3 was on the onkyo then the onkyo to the tv...the onkyo gathered all the hdmi.
but as i only use the ps3 i will try to plug it direct to tv and to put the optical line from ps3 to onkyo (it was indeed from the tv back to the onkyo for the same reason as above) anyway going through your solution will at least reduce the number of handshakes and 'filters' ... i'll try this this week end. but while i am playing games there is no problem...it's a bit weird all this stuff !! |

The PS3 could be switching between 1080p/60 and 1080p/24. If u say it only at the start of the movie, then this seems to be the case, if so then its normal. Some TVs can handle the change more gracefully than others. When you're on the XMB or the menus of some Blurays, it could be 1080p/60, but once the movie starts, the PS3 might have to send out 1080p/24 for the movie itself. Same for some games, if its needs to change from 1080p to 720p, etc.
You can look for the BD Movie option in the setting somewhere to turn ON or OFF or leave 24p on AUTO if u don't want it to change at the start of the movie. Hope that helps. |

i was wondering if it was this problem (resolution switches) but as it didn't do that before i don't see why it does suddenly. morevover it never occurs while playing , only on movies .
Nevertheless i tried to link the ps3 direct to the tv . so far it solved the problem ! i think it has something to do with the onkyo. perhaps several parameters : differences in hdmi generation , fact that several cables work together , the plug and unplug while moving furnitures that could have done a mess in the handshakes management.....well i don't know , perhaps all that . But now it works so i will only use the onkyo as sound system rather than hdmi receiver !! Thanks a lot for your answers you helped me good ( at least in understanding the hdmi way ) |
