Yeah, the scripts are the biggest thing. I like the people involved so far, especially with Kasdan being involved, and I figure that J.J. didn't just sign on to make the first film, but he'll see the trilogy through as a producer as well, so I'm sure he and Kennedy will work to make sure the scripts are in perfect working order before continuing. That's why they're planning so far ahead, so if something needs more work, they'll have the time to do it. I'd rather they do that than rush scripts and have a mess on their hands.

Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite of the Harry Potter films and I also loved Children of Men so I am very excited about the idea of Cuaron doing Star Wars.

Too artsy. I LOVE Cuaron too, don't get me wrong. But his style and long one-takes ... Not sure if that's right for Star Wars.

Wow, I never thought he'd even be considered! I love Cuaron and his cinematic style, and think he'd make a very interesting Star Wars film.

(Has anyone else noticed that, suddenly, Kennedy doesn't seem to backing up the statement where she said that younger, up-coming film-makers would have a chance in this saga? Both Abrams and Cuaron are big directors.)

Both seem to be relatively safe picks since they have both worked on large franchises with good results. Abrams revived Star Trek and Cuaron gave Harry Potter some darkness, style and weight that would carry through for the rest of that series.

It appears Rian Johnson will be writing the treatment for Episode IX as well as writing and directing Episode VIII.

As J.J. Abrams continues to work on Star Wars Episode VII, it seems his successor is about to get to work on the next major chapter in the ongoing Star Wars series. Looper writer/director Rian Johnson is expected to be announced as the writer and director of Star Wars Episode VIII. Initial reports said he was going to direct Star Wars Episode IX as well, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. He will, however, write a treatment for that third episode.

Ugh Disney has yet to pick a good director for the franchise. Josh Trank?please Chronicle was overrated and not to mention boring. Gareth Edwards? That guy is like the new Snyder but a pansy when it comes to utilizing his budgets. Also he's terrible writing at human beings. I wasn't impressed by Brick, the acting felt choppy and the story wasn't that great and the payoff was disappointing. Then you had Looper which was interesting till its moronic third act where nothing in the film really mattered.

I dont think Disney is planning to hire well-established older directors for these movies, so you might as well all lower your expectations of director choices.

Still would love to see a Star Wars movie directed by Peter Weir, John McTiernan, Terrance Malick, Steven Spielberg, Terry Gilliam, Mel Gibson, Luc Besson, Clint Eastwood or Jean-Luc Godard.

Holy bloody hell! I wouldn't let Malick near star wars with a 80 foot pole!

Malick would make a 3 hour Star Wars film of just a Star Destroyer moving along the screen. It would be like Space Balls but not as funny.

I thought it was already confirmed several months ago that Lawrence Kasden (ESB) was chosen to write Episodes VII, VIII and IX????? I wonder if he will still write in some capacity?

I do too. I think they've gotten a slew of fantastic choices in the directors they've gotten. Lots of talent in all those involved.

While I like Rian, I would rather have someone different to do each of the episodes and thus pull together really unique styles to each individual films.

You might like their movies but JJ Abrams, I enjoyed his Star Trek a lot but it just bothers me with him going to an opposing franchise on this, he'll probably do a great job. He's had some misfires that are love it or hate it movies.

Looper was just plain out moronic in its last act, great ideas but terrible payoff. Brothers Bloom never saw it but it panned with critics. Could be a good cult movie so I can't say. As for Brick, it was an interesting idea but I didn't think the direction or story was outstanding at all.

And like I said about Gareth Edwards, he's a real piece of crap and Josh Trank is busy ruining Fantastic Four after his mediocre Chronicle.

And I don't want any big director names, I want directors that can direct and write.

Frank Darabont would be an incredible choice, Derek Cinafrance? Another good choice. There's a lot of competent directors out there who definitely will work for cheap than the big names.

Outside of Abrams, none of the choices so far are big names...
