this is why i got the hong kong version of the movie when someone was selling it on here or trading for it, for about the same price as the american one

didn't care about the dub since all studio ghibi films should be watched in japanese and knew i wouldn't watch the extras, and the artwork is that much cooler. didn't have to worry about dub-titles either

Are you going by the in-store check feature online? If so, try calling as that only shows an item as available if there are more than 3 in-store. Most stores seem to have only received a single copy each of the blu-ray and DVD.

Edit: I just scanned through the first hour(about 8 chapters?) and didn't hear any audio dropouts, or unusally low audio? Very difficult to turn a Ghibli movie off without watching it!

Just watched the film, for the first time. ZERO audio issues and I found the opposite of what Ronin mentioned... the audio channels were louder than other BDs. I normally watched a BD at -10 on my Onkyo receiver. I had this set to -17, and even with it being a 5.0 audio track, LFE was actually pretty deep and complimenting.

Got mine at Best Buy as well. Watched it this evening (Japanese audio, English original cast subs) and it played fine. No audio issues at all.

I did encounter this. The issue was with my BD player's audio settings. You might have yours on the "wrong" setting. It seems that this particular BD release is really picky about audio settings, so fiddle around with it. It's the setting where you choose PCM or Bitstream. Mine had 3 settings, so I just fiddled until it was fixed.

Nice to see the booklet included. Love Goro's essay in it where he talks about his self doubts and being in the shadow of his father. Really makes you want to root for the guy to succeed and pave his own path, even if you don't believe he "deserved" to become a Ghibli director.

Picked up the last copy of this at my local BB. I almost didn't go since the website was saying unavailable. However, I guess with each store getting only a copy or two it wouldn't have show as available anyway. Had a $5 reward zone cert so my total was just under $20. Now I only need to pick up Grave of the Fireflys and I will have all Rhe US Ghibli blue.

Problem is Grave isn't technically a US Ghibli. I checked my packaging today, nowhere is the studio mentioned.

Probably because Tokuma didn't produce it and Ghibli doesn't own the film. Disney was able to release it in Japan, but without the English dub (guess because it isn't a official English dub, or a English dub that Ghibli would have rights to). And because the film isn't owned by Ghibli, that's probably why its release is limited to Japan, US, and UK.

It's definitely Studio Ghibli. Perhaps you mean it's not Disney?

Well the US release may not mention Studio Ghibli, it still was made by them and I consider it a Ghibli film.

Default From Up on Poppy Hill coming in 2013!

It seems to take a while for the menu to have any sounds. I do like how the Studio Ghibli Blu-ray logo is on the release.

There is a brief clip of Spirited Away in what appears to be HD quality in the dubbing feature. Can't wait for the Blu-ray release.

Noticed the silence when the BD menu popped up. Also noticed no annoying 1,000 trailers and FBI warnings.

Just ordered this. It will be my first, of hopefully MANY, Studio Ghibli films...

Do you guys listen to the English tracks, or Japanese tracks with English subs?

I check both out and decide which voice cast did a better job. Sometimes the original is better, sometimes the English cast do a better job.

I saw FUOPH at the cinemas in Japanese with subtitles and it was a terrific voice cast. The English cast sound good too from the trailer but I think the Japanese track will be my ultimate pick.

I import the Japanese versions and watch those in Japanese and then I buy the US versions and watch it in English.

Sounds like a solid strategy.

Why do you do that when the US release has the original Japanese track?

What kind of question is that?? I don't even think its legal to watch a Ghibli title in English.
