Exactly!!! It was a rush going to Future Shop early on a Tuesday morning hoping to score a Steelbook like Iron Man, The Dark Knight 1st print, I Am legend or Inglourious Basterds. Now they either make so many copies that it doesn't matter or the exact same, identical Steelbook is being released in 5 or 6 other markets. I can still walk in to FS and find The Amazing Spider Man, The Expendables 2, Brave (Metal Box), Cinderella (Metalbox) etc on the shelf. These things used to sell out usually by lunchtime on the day of release. You definitely hit the nail on the head though, its just not fun anymore collecting them.

My theory for why there's so many more steel books, is because the studios want to give people another reason to buy them. Their competition is streaming like Netflix, or or simply pirating it and burning a copy. Plus anyone can produce an amaray case that looks nearly as good as an 'official' one at a fraction of the cost of a purchased movie.

But with steel books, you can't duplicate it..not without a lot of careful dis-assembly of an existing steelbook because you can't buy blank steelbook cases (only amazon Germany has them).

That's just my 'theory' anyways. Plus I do like Steel book cases, they are far nicer than regular amarays.
