Hell Yes!!!!!! Jessica Chastain joins the Cast

Via The Hollywood Reporter

The actress, Oscar-nominated for her work in last year’s Zero Dark Thirty, is joining Emma Stone, Benedict Cumberbatch and Charlie Hunnam in the Legendary Pictures project, which del Toro is making as his follow-up to his big-budget tentpole Pacific Rim.

A February production start date is planned. Universal Pictures retains an option to join Legendary as a financier.

The gothic horror story centers on a woman who discovers that her husband might not be who he appears to be.

Details on who is playing whom were not revealed.

Del Toro wrote the script with Matthew Robbins; Lucinda Coxon recently did a rewrite.

Chastain last starred in the surprise hit horror movie Mama, which was executive produced by del Toro. She is repped by CAA, Mosaic and Hansen, Jacobson

I honestly think that this is Del Toro's 'Haunted Mansion' film, but I have a feeling Disney cancelled it behind closed doors, so he retooled it into this. Not that I'm complaining, I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I'm personally disappointed. I was really looking forward to that.
Haunted Mansion was always my favorite ride at Disneyland, and after Pirates of the Caribbean, always felt it deserved a movie adaption that gave it justice. And Del Toro would have been the best kind of justice.

I'm sure this will be awesome too and I look forward to it, but doesn't hold my excitement like that would.

I would have liked to see GDT get his hooks into the Haunted Mansion movie reboot. He had supposedly hired one of the key imagineers involved with the Haunted House attraction at Disneyland as a consultant, but that news was like a year ago. I'm afraid that Crimson Peak is the rewrite of the Haunted Mansion. I'm sure it will be good, but I also fear that it won't be suitable for kids if he doesn't get Disney behind the project and I think that would be unfortunate for fans with children that love the ride.

IMO, with this cast, I don't want a movie for kids. I want R rated, Pan's Labyrinth style horror. I want something genuinely spooky and I have no doubt Del Toro will deliver.

Mia Wasikowska In Talks to Replace Emma Stone

Quote:
The Wrap reports that Mia Wasikowska is in talks to replace Emma Stone in Guillermo del Toro's haunted-house movie Crimson Peak. Stone was apparently too busy to make the schedule work; however, it was probably for the best because, for how lovely Stone is (which is to say super lovely), Wasikowska is just generally spookier. Wasikowska would play a young author who learns her husband is not what he seems. Benedict Cumberbatch and Jessica Chastain are signed on to play her siblings. It seems that del Toro is really committed to making sure his starring family is as fair-skinned as possible. Makes sense: Pale is as close to ghost as living people get.

I would say yes just because it was never scary to me and had more comedic elements than Horror ones.

Pre-Production Has Begun on Crimson Peak

Quote:
Crimson Peak 'Shockingly Different' for Del Toro, Guillermo On Kinky Nature of Gothic Tale

In the midst of the whirlwind Pacific Rim press tour and the prep work he's doing for The Strain, Guillermo del Toro is currently in early pre-production for Crimson Peak for Legendary Pictures. Shooting doesn't begin until February 2014, but a cast is already in place. Charlie Hunnam, Mia Wasikowska, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jessica Chastain will star.

"Crimson Peak is a much, much, much smaller movie, completely character-driven," said Del Toro in a one-on-one interview. "It's an adult movie, an R-rated movie, pretty adult. Shockingly different from anything I've done in the English language. Normally, when I go to do a movie in America for the spectacle and younger audience, for Blade or whatever. This movie's tone is scary and it's the first time I get to do a movie more akin to what I do in the Spanish movies."

"The thing I do in those movies is recontextualization, take a movie and then move it into a completely different place," he added. "Like a Gothic and then move it into the Spanish Civil War [The Devil's Backbone]. This is a Gothic romance, haunted house, in the north of England."

And how is the house of Crimson Peak looking? "The house is looking great. We started scouting two months ago and are deep into the design and it looks fabulous. Obviously, I'm going to buy a lot of the props," Del Toro laughed.

Tonally, Del Toro said Crimson Peak "has moments that are very visceral, physical violence. You're in this sort of sedate romance and then there is this brutal moment where you're like, "Whoa!" And it has a lot of kinky moments. The only kinky moment I've ever shot is the leg *beep* in The Devil's Backbone. [laughs] This has a little more kinkiness than that."

Along with Charlie Hunnam, I believe Jim Beaver (of Supernatural and Deadwood fame) posted on his Facebook that he had been cast as well. They join Benedict Cumberbatch, Jessica Chastain, and the rumoured Mia Wasikowska.

Default Benedict Cumberbatch exits Guillermo Del Toro's Crimson Peak

Quote:
Benedict Cumberbatch has exited Crimson Peak, the Legendary horror movie being directed by Guillermo del Toro.

No reason for his departure was given although sources say his exit is not due to another project.

Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska remain on board to star in the four-hander gothic horror story that centers on a woman who discovers that her husband might not be who he appears to be.

PHOTOS: 11 British Actors Invading Hollywood's 'It List'

Peak is scheduled to shoot in January and the exit at this early stage gives del Toro plenty of time to find a replacement. The filmmaker has already shown he can roll with the punches when he quickly cast Chastain after Emma Stone fell off the movie.

Cumberbatch is entering a busy period where many of his completed films will hit screens. Dreamworks’ The Fifth Estate kicks off The Toronto International Film Festival, Fox Searchlight’s 12 Years a Slave opens on Oct. 18, while the all-star August: Osage County opens Dec. 25.

He is also voicing the dragon Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and is in pre-production on The Imitation Game, in which he will portray gay cryptographer Alan Turing.
