An extraordinary bump, this thread is 11 years old!

Anyway, I sadly got rid of my unrated DVD, but I'm not too bothered about the toned down Blu-ray.

Die hard 5 is already in poundland...

Or has been at least.

I'm waiting for the digital copies to come down. As I own 1,2 and 4 digitally. Just never want to buy 5 for anything other than 99p.

Didn't know there was an unrated cut of 4.

As for 5 they need to fix the mess that is the theatrical cut and the bigger mess that is the unrated cut and add in holly.. who the hell took her out of the unrated cut of 5!!

I got the Die Hard 5 steelbook for £1.99 when HMV Oxford Street closed down about 4 years ago. Having watched it, I overpaid.

The Theatrical Cut of Die Hard 4 is better anyway, has as a couple of better alternate quips from McClane.
Die Hard 5 has the better extended version of the car chase in the unrated version. The best part of the movie as well. Everything after that scene is garbage in whatever version you watch.

Erasing MEW from the extended cut of DH5 was phony as hell.

Maybe Ewan McGregor's wife was involved in the edit?

I’m really curious why they did that. The only reason I can think, is that the extended version drops the ending with McCLane going back to the US with Jack and meeting up with Lucy. So was this why they dropped her taking him to the airport and her phoning him during the car chase, so it doesn’t setup her reappearance anymore?

I think I prefer everything about the extended cut though, and I think I prefer losing the “happy” ending back in the US, but I wouldn’t have minded them keeping Lucy dropping him at the airport. It’s no big deal either way, but I always go for the extended cut now, even though the film is still mediocre, and unbelievably so for a Die Hard film.

I’m also very curious to find out at what stage John McClane became impervious to being cut to shreds while falling through plate glass panels? I think that’s what drives me crazy the most, he’s literally indestructible now, like The Terminator, a far cry from the everyman hero depicted in the first film. They should have called the film “A Good Day to Jump Through Glass”.

Instead of erasing MEW, they should've erased the entire film.

Part 6 can begin with Bruce stepping out of the shower Dallas-style.

Her scenes were all reshoots added after the film previewed. Although the extended version apparently contains scenes from the reshoots I'm guessing it hews closer to the original preview version.

We're into Die Hard Year One next, mostly set in the 70s with another John McClane and a few linking scenes with a modern-day Willis mumbling on the phone while he counts his money.

Do you know more about the preview version? Presumably the original John McClane introduction as seen in the extras was part of it?

Not much, I'm afraid, though apparently the opening shooting range scene was part of the reshoots.

Indeed, I think it's mentioned in the director's commentary it was shot in London (along with most of the other reshoots) while Bruce was filming RED 2. The longer version of that scene in the EC should have been left in the theatrical... it feels like that's the tone of the movie they really should have made.

1,0 de 5 estrellas Die Hard Bamboozlement - faulty item (wrong back cover info)

This collection DOES NOT include the extended version of Die Hard 4.0 (not in HD, not in SD) even though the back cover states that it does. Hands off!

I got rid of 99% of my DVDs a few months back as I knew I'd never watch them again or I'd since bought the films on BR.

Only reason I kept the Die Hard 4 DVD was because it has the unrated version. Honestly I don't normally care when a film has 2 versions with slightly different/extended scenes so would pretty much be OK with the version that's on BR, but it really annoyed me that they semi-censored the "Yipee-Ki-Yay" line, so that's essentially why I have the DVD still.

With this year marking the 30th anniversary of Die Hard, I wouldn't be surprised to see another boxset and one that would finally correct the missing Unrated Cut issue regarding it's UK BD release.

If not, I recommend the Australian JB HiFi set which contains all the films, including both cuts for 4 and 5 AND the bonus disc from the 25th anniversary collection.
