I think it is because some people seem to think that only their opinions are right and when a list comes out like this and is different from their own, they feel they are being told they are wrong.

One of my issues with The Dark Knight Rises was that I found it overly ambitious. It tries to do so many things at once that ultimately, nothing feels well-developed. As for emotional weight, I thought it fell flat in that regard. I wasn't remotely moved by the ending and some scenes were just unintentionally hilarious. I did like the scenes between Bruce and Alfred, though.

With ever more lists each year it is hard to believe anyone can be offended by any single one. Between AFI, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, and many less-entertainment-oriented lifestyle magazines let alone TotalFilm, FilmComment and other niche film magazines ... Not to mention who knows how many websites... Who even really cares about these opinions?

Okay, I do. But not to ratify my own tastes and make me feel better about myself or what I already like, but to maybe inspire me to try something I dismissed or didn't know about. Maybe even reconsider something I didn't like the first time.

I think you're onto something with this.

Dude while I like the film there were so many holes that I almost fell through one. What was so emotional? Bane crying like a ***** or Bruce weeping like a baby in the hole? Give me a break. The Avengers is what a comic book film is supposed to be! Nolan tried to do sumthin with a film thats its really not. How can it be so serious and realistic with a dude in a metal mask and another dude in tights with bat ears haha. The Avengers is better than TDKR in every way. Got Em!!

The Dark Knight Rises was more ambitious than The Avengers. Come on. The Avengers is about as safe as it gets. You never felt any danger for the heroes. In The Dark Knight Rises you weren't sure if Batman would make it. You call out TDKR's flaws but act like The Avengers doesn't have any? Thor getting back to Earth was real convenient. Also the ending was reminiscent of The Phantom Menace lol. The army dying was real convenient.

I love The Avengers AND The Dark Knight Rises. I just prefer the Dark Knight Rises. The Avengers is not a flawless film, lol. It's far from it. Of course when a story is simpler and less complex it's going to have less contrivances.

U arent pointing out plot holes though. U can call it safe but atleast it makes sense. Also I never felt any danger in TDKR. The reason simply is because we all know Batman isnt gonna die get real. We all know he wasnt going anywhere be serious. If u fell for that then thats on u. It tried to be a real life drama and to that effect it didnt work. Now in real life dramas when people get in danger its believable and u think they might actually die but Batman??? Haha cmon man. Got Em!!

+another 1

Haven't seen Django, silver Linings, 0Dark30 or Les Miz; but only Argo will make my top ten out of the list. The others range from okay to very good. Atleast there's no Extremely Loud or The Help caliber out of those.

It's more ambitious for sure but that doesnt equate superiority. Battlefield Earth was ambitious too!

True. Like I said, I'm not trying to start an argument. I love The Dark Knight Rises but I do understand why people don't like it. I just don't think that The Avengers is better than The Dark Knight Rises. That's just my opinion though. I'm just saying, I personally felt that The Dark Knight Rises carried more weight and Nolan's ambition slightly outweighed the film itself but he came pretty damn close. It's hard to top The Dark Knight but he came close if you ask me.

But he did die...

I never felt any danger in TDKR, cuz I was asleep! Avengers was good, but I didn't see many films this year, especially the ones on that list, so I can't even list a top ten.

Anyway, why argue? Someone's list... wow... who cares?

Thats respectable. I just hate it when uber Fanboys can't see the faults with their films. When you anticipate a film for months and months, biase takes over and im no saint in that regard.

Terrence Malick's To the Wonder gets an automatic 10 for me, regardless of what i see next year.

I don't understand why people have to hate on one movie and think the other is flawless. They are both flawed movies and they are both very different movies. You may think it's silly but yes, Nolan did elevate the superhero genre and took it more seriously than The Avengers did. He grounded it in realism and the themes that he strung through the entire trilogy is widely admired. Nolan's ambitious attempt to make Batman more than just a comic book movie was great and out of the three movies he did a damn good job. The Dark Knight is the best comic book ever made and it was a tough act to follow but I think he did a great job. I don't think making TDKR his most ambitious work is a flaw. Sure you can point out plot holes but that's easy because there is a lot more going on in TDKR than there was in The Avengers. That doesn't make The Avengers better. It just makes it a simpler more jaunty story (and there is nothing wrong with that at all. It's just a different kind of movie).

But I don't feel like continuing this on. I just figured I'd make my last pitch about why I prefer The Dark Knight Rises. It's not how I think everyone else should feel. It's just how I feel. I respect your opinion and I hope you respect mine.

Avengers wasn't exactly a "Safe Film". Given it was the first time various solo movie heroes were brought together into one film. Not only that, you had a massive cast to balance screentime with. It could have been a huge trainwreck if something had gone wrong. Especially with Joss Whedon in charge.

Calling Avengers out for it's use of exposition and ignoring it in The Dark Knight Rises is pretty hilarious. They both use it to tell the story.

Look, we get that you love the film. That's great! But a lot of the fans of the first two were left feeling letdown.

That's kinda what happens when you place The Dark Knight on a pedestal and consider it the second coming.
Really? I loved the movie!
