Is this still coming out in April? Haven't heard any updates or seen any official cover art.

Amazon lists two DVD copies at $26.95 and $13.46 with no extra details available.

I think the $26.95 copy is mislisted as a DVD and is actually the Blu-Ray version, but I was unable to get any further clarification from Amazon.

I sent an email to Kino to see if there were any updates about this release. Amazon has two DVD listings for 04/16/2013 but no details.

I got a response and unfortunately, this release has been delayed.

Hi Zachary,

The release date for BAY OF BLOOD (Both DVD and Blu-ray) has been delayed, so the film won't be released on April 16th.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Best,

Doug Kerins

Amazon's preorder has been corrected to reflect one of the releases as a Blu-Ray, not a DVD. They still have the release date as 04/16/2013, but Kino has advised that the release is delayed.

Have Kino actually given any indication that the transfer will be any different from Arrow's, or is this just blind faith? Excluding the extra content, there's really been nothing in it between Arrow and Kino's discs when it comes to previous Bava releases, and with the recent German mediabook release of A Bay Of Blood seemingly using the exact same transfer as the Arrow release, I'm a little bewildered why you think this will be any different, unless Kino have confirmed it themselves?

Could have sworn there was another thread where a comparison between the Kino and Arrow releases was discussed. Must've been a distributor or Bava thread or something.

Anyway, I watched the Kino disc tonight and definitely prefer the contrast, framing, and cooler tone to the Arrow one. Since it was filmed in Technicolor, I'm curious how the film is really supposed to look since there's talk of the warmer, slightly more colorful Arrow disc not being saturated enough. But just for my own personal tastes, the cooler tone of Kino's looks less odd and helps the night scenes actually look like night and not dusk.

I noticed some errors on Kino's disc and wondering if anyone else did. I didn't write down the timecodes but the first instance is when the German girl and the dude in the sweater first go down to the dock; when the camera shows the water and the reflection of the characters walking on the dock, the framerate is all choppy; you can really notice the water doesn't move smoothly nor do the reflections of the walking characters.

The other is around the 0:39 mark when the card-reading drunk lady looks into her husband's office when he's not there, and the pan from her face into the room shows some weird artifacting on the door. Both of these instances really bothered me and are not present on Arrow's disc, so they must be encoding errors since I'm certain they're sourced from the same master.

Just felt kinda like a kick to the nuts because I otherwise prefer the video quality of the Kino disc.

Shame the UK disc wasn't released under "new Arrow" as it likely would've been the definitive release.

There was a back and forth on this, not sure where it resides either, but the end result is some like Arrow, some like Kino. I go with Kino myself.

I picked up the Arrow because I heard about some audio issues with the Kino (and I got a good price). What did you think of the audio, Mr. Swank? I'm thinking of getting the Kino as well because I wasn't at all happy with the blacks on the Arrow. I had to adjust my set quite a bit to make it look satisfactory.

I like the video of the Kino version better - but it doesn't have Closed-Captioning!!! Throughout the life of Bay of Blood/Twitch of the Death Nerve releases, it's always been hard to understand what the characters are saying with it's complex murder/revenge/greed plotline.

I didn't notice any problems with the audio on Kino's BD. I really do prefer the way it looks overall, I just wish those few seconds of encoding blemishes weren't there.

I like a lot of Kino's releases but the lack of subtitles really bothers me.

Judging by the screencaps, the grain on the Arrow BD pops out better and the colors are much richer.

The Kino disc looks washed out and has a pinch of DNR, so I feel like I made a wise choice in getting the Arrow disc.

The Arrow has a more natural color to it, the Kino looks like a color corrected and is probably more accurate to Bava's vision (but with less attractive grain). I found both worthwhile and thus own both. It is just a shame that there's that ugly looking alternate cut.

I'm sure a fresh scan would also include an HD transfer of the Italian cut if Arrow were to revisit it next year.

For those that have this, how does the European cuts compare in terms of picture quality? I know it's not as good, but just want to know if it's by a substantial margin or not.

The arrow release has always looked like it's in the wrong dynamic range to me, or the gamma is totally off, and therefore ALL of the colours are "off" on the Arrow release. Set your BD player dynamic range/Display gamma settings accordingly (if you have the option).
