update from second sight

"SCANNERS LIMITED EDITION BLU-RAY STEELBOOK coming soon!! Sorry everyone, we just needed an extra couple of weeks to finalise production on this but now confirmed as April 8th release date. We've just taken delivery of the SteelBooks themselves and here's one taking pride of place in the office. Also released are Scanners 2 and 3 in standard packaging and all are Region Free"

Region free and only 15 quid? Nice! I'm in - just placed a pre-order on Amazon UK.

I'll have to wait on specs/extras for Scream's versions of 2 and 3 - they'll be cheaper than the SS releases for those of us in the US if they end up being a double feature disc.

It would have being Nice if the steal book was limited edition 3 movie pack like they did with basket case and sold them separately in normal cases. I would imagine they would move more copies that way

I agree josuv22, I had originally hoped for a trilogy steelbook a la Basket Case. Now I guess it's wait and see with regards to the US distributor of the 1st film (Criterion or Synapse), and more info from Scream on the sequels. I wouldn't have minded paying for a steelbook trilogy with exclusive extras now, and then potentially double-dip down the line, but shelling out 38 pounds (roughly 59 bucks) for three individual releases right now isn't very appealing, as spiffy as that steelbook for the first film is.

I get what you're saying, but I for one am really happy it's only the first as a steel. With Basket Case all the films are on the same level, but with Scanners the first is in a whole different league to the other two.

I only want the first one.

All I have are various off-air versions on a digi-box. Both are via Film4 (the recent one before Xmas and one from around 2002). Such a shame there isn't even a real DVD of it.

Would love to see the original version and not the hacked studio cut. But, I think it's a movie Mann has wiped from his history.
I don't wanna to be responsible for for starting a possible "frenzy" here, but I've heard (rumours only!) that Criterion MIGHT be releasing The Keep at some point.

As for Scanners, I've also heard about a possible Criterion release for that also. Not sure if that's going to be a North America or UK release tho. Either way, looking forward to it, if it happens!

I think the frenzy will cause about 27 scanner like head explosions around the world - me included

27 is my guess for the people that would buy a Keep Blu-Ray (no matter what price)

LOL

Seriously, a Keep Criterion would be cool - at least we'd know it was the best they could master from.

Don't think so, It's more likely to be the master that Umbrella have just released in Australia. Slightly different, Details here:

The Keep was based on a book I think is the best horror novel I have ever read. The movie is an absolute disaster, IMO. The author of the book, F Paul Wilson, was so upset with the film that he wrote Cuts, a short story where a writer got revenge on the director that had ruined his story. The director was unsubtly named Milo Ghirl.

If there is a director's cut we have never seen I'd like to see it although it's hard to see how there's any way it could be saved.
