We don't, but neither can prove the other wrong, so what's the point?
![]() There is no set of standards the regulates "Limited Edition" short of how a business wants to market it. What I said is the truest sense of the concept of "Limited Edition". In a lot of cases it's just used as a sales gimmick. |

I mean, the Zavvi one was sold out very fast. People bought it because its the same steelbook (same as the expensive Play.com one). |

i dont care about numbers a whole lot...i just like when i cna get something that is harder to find like my saving private ryan or black hawk down steelbooks...granted, they are on ebay, but the trick is getting them for a reasonable price, which isn't always an easy task.

I bought the white Zavvi version because it was the first one offered in the UK for a reasonable price since the Play.com version. To be honest, it wouldn't have mattered to me if it looked different (I don't even care if it's the black one that drops through my letterbox - as long as it's not dented) because all I wanted was a Star Trek steelbook for a reasonable price that didn't have either a blue banner or foreign text on it. Same with the Play.com version of Iron Man. As long as it didn't have the blue banner (which it didn't) I didn't care if it looked like the Futureshop version or not. Ultimately it didn't which pleased a lot of proud FS IM owners. All I want is a movie I love in a steelbook case (which I like the look of), nothing more, nothing less. I'm not interested in how rare it is, what it's resale price becomes or whether my neighbours have the same thing. I do understand though that a lot of collectors don't feel the same way. |

As another poster said, it depends on your personal opinion towards what limited should be. Making 35000 of them is still limited, but just isn't as collectable as something limited to 100. Most exclusive steel runs are, what, 4k prints, yet the more in demand ones are certainly limited because people want them more so buy them fast.
The recent Zavvi scandal has some people up in arms, but it depends on what your thoughts towards those who don't have the steelbook is - as someone who didn't get a Play exclusive Trek steel, it was very nice to then suddenly have two options for a decent price. If I'd have been in the same situation, but had the Play version, I probably would've been angry that they were re-releasing it because I might have had to pay over-the-odds for what I had. I certainly wouldn't want another steelbook collector missing out on something they might want just because I wanted my steel to be worth a whole lot, though. |
