I know some parts will look awful, but that wasn't what I was getting at. Universal has a habit of reusing HD masters from the DVD age. Those master often suffer from SEVERE DNR and edge enhancement. I hope they made the effort to create a new master, since Midway is actually a significant title for its decade.

Some footage was from Tora Tora Tora which looked great after being restored.

So glad they are finally putting this title out! I am sitting it on the shelf next to my UK Tora Tora Tora BD.

Hope this one comes out with good quality. Love this movie.

Hate the cover art they're using. What's up with having a Battleship (USS Missouri) that wasn't even in service at the time with some kind of fake looking explosions on it's deck. There's gotta be some decent quality images of one of the actual Carriers from the battle they could have used. Of course I'm probably the only one who cares.

Don't get me wrong either, it's just nit picky and won't keep me from buying the movie.

No, I care as well and I agree with you. I would have liked to have seen a picture of the Yorktown or Enterprise. The other problem with the cover is that the planes are not Mitsubishi AM62 Zeros, but American AT6 trainer planes painted in Japanese markings. That was one of the things I was glad that Bay got right in Pearl Harbor. They were able to find two working Zeros and the rest were CGI.

Well, yes they're AT6's or started that way. But they're modified by stretching the fuselage several feet and putting a tail from a BT13 to try and make them look like Japanese Nakajima B5N Kate's (torpedo planes) for TORA! TORA! TORA!. I guess I don't really have a big problem with those since they were used in the film. They're really pretty good replicas overall. That Battleship though just jumps right off the cover and says 'wrong'.

Yeah, they look decent, but seeing the planes from the front or the side really gives it away, but that's just because I am a historian of sorts. Most people won't care or even notice.

I'm building a custom cover using the theatrical release poster:

Looks good.

"Can I ask you something personal? Very personal?"

"Sure."

"You know, it really stinks down here. How often do some of your people take a bath?"

Bath? Hell, I don't know. What day is it?"

IF this title wasn't coming out on BD anytime soon I would have done what I just did with 'In Harm's Way' and several other DVDs, used Vudu's Disc to Digital service where you take the movie to Walmart and for $5 they unlock it in HDX, their highest HD format on Vudu.

The print is excellent. Stunning, takes me back to the theater with my late father. They include about 10 minutes if the approximately 40 minutes of the tv footage in a separate section. I can see with it being 4:3 ratio why they didn't do two versions.

Excellent PQ for the film elements...5/5. Everyone should be aware that the movie does employ authentic war footage and that looks great, but is is war footage .
