I'm really confused with everyone's response. Steelbook collecting is about getting great artwork (which this has) and having something unique. This design does that. It is an awsome steelbook. (Like Who Framed Roger Rabbit) I'm extremely surprised at the apparent lack of desire for this. (There are only 2 pages in this thread). Other leas popular titles have gotten ALOT more press than this. I thought for sure that this would be a big seller (like Iron Man). I hope these responses change or we may not get many more catelogue titles in the future.

^^^

I guess my biggest issue is that with movies that come out as sets (trilogies and whatnot) I like to have the art work to at least resemble the others. With Batman Begins being color, TDK being B&W and TDKR being the standard release that looks like the HMV, BB, etc. ones to me they would look odd together.

This an plus I am trying to stock to my guns of no double dipping so probably passing on these.

Sounds like someone isn't happy that the secondary market is being flooded with cheaper steels and demand won't be high for the previous copies.

Not at all.... I have 1 copy of both amazon.jp batman steelbooks and only spent £25 on each and do not plan on selling them....
Im just against boring copying of other peoples work and i like exclusiverty nothing wrong with that... i enjoy that they are difficult to obtain...

If anything your statement would make no sense as i would just buy out 10 copies of this cheaper version wait for it to pre-order sell out in about 4 days then sell them all on ebay for 300% profit.... If i was the sort of person you are implying this would be amazing for me.

I am holding out on these since I believe sometime in the near future this may happen.

If Zavvi was smart (and one would think that it was the case considering their efforts with the upcoming Indiana Jones artwork), they would pick a theme and stick with it. They would use either B&W or colour for all 3, not one in colour and one in B&W. Then, they would put Bane's face on the cover of TDKR in the same manner as the previous titles in the franchise. THAT would be the best way to approach these releases.

The closest thing we have to a complete matching set right now are the North American steelbooks. Batman Begins and TDK work really well together. TDKR is decent, but doesn't really "match" and fit in with the other two even though it looks "ok" when all are placed side-by-side.
Agreed, I've got the North American BB and TDK releases which go quite well with TDKR, but the spines are inconsistent, logos and text don't line up, TDK has a picture, TDKR has the white colour from the front over part of it. But I think I'm just gonna go the custom spine route for them.

I hate this if this steelbook will be the exact same as Japanese version. It will lose all of it's speciality, which is why I bought it in the first place.

Steelbooks have become less and less special as time goes on. Luckily there are few gems like Roger Rabbit though.

EDIT:

The reason people dislike this release is because it's butchering the uniquness on the Japanese versions. Or that's my opinion.

It makes no sense to release first two in white and third one without white color scheme, personally i don't like this white schemes, i just feel it doesn't represent the films in any way. In my opinion the best version is German Trilogy Steelbook set, artwork is consistent, spines are matching, well everything you just mentioned is like it should be actually, but i will never buy it, simply because there is German text on it, maybe i sound nitpicking, but if i'm going to spend a lot of cash on something it needs to be near perfect in my eyes, if UK gets set like this, i'll go for it.

You are making a judgement that all of us collect all steelbooks from everywhere, I for one only collect UK steelbooks so for me this is a new design

How does the UK release compare to the North American release of The Dark Knight in terms of PQ/AQ?

Agreed - there seems to be an assumption on here at lot of the time by a good few posters that 'collector' applies to people who go all-out - importing, spending ridiculous amounts on OOP titles, multiple variations, keeping them sealed, etc.

There are many levels of collecting and people's habits may vary. You don't need to import to be considered a collector. Thus these steelbooks will appeal to that level of steelbook fan.

As far as I know they are identical.

This being the only film I like from Nolan's trilogy I would have bought this steel but the B&W ruins it for me as it hides Jokers iconic face paint... why'd they choose B&W, what's the connection?

Quite an interesting debate with valid points being made on all sides. My contribution to this debate is that like a lot of us here I like to collect things but I do feel if a design already exists then it should not be reproduced. Part of the joy of collecting is the actual chase, a new design would have given collectors something new to acquire if they so wished.

I agree. A new artwork would have made more sense.
This doesn't mean this steelbook is not nice.

Since Batman Begins steelbook is not totally black & white but it also has some colours, that led me to hope that this steelbook would also have some colour like this:

If that would be the case, I would in all honesty prefer these versions more than the Japanses ones.

You said you like that they're difficult to obtain, which is good because if anyone ever decides to sell theirs they could get the best price for it. It does sound like some people are buying these steelbooks because they are exclusive not for the actual movie or the interest in the steelbook design. These new steebooks will diminish a lot of exclusivity which is fine by me since I buy steelbooks because I like the design of it and the movie.
