Hopefully it's a remastered edition, the Universal disc is atrocious.

Mediumrare aren't the most reliable label...that's all I know. I do wonder if it's the Criterion master though...assuming they could get it off them, which would be annoying as I recently bought the less impressive Universal release. Oh well, it was only a few quid!

I'd definitely re-buy it, if they use the Criterion transfer.

Tried in vain to find info on this release. Might have to reach out to the distributor to see what master they used.

Did anyone ever find out anything about this Mediumrare "Collector's Edition?" The 2nd disc appears to be a DVD, but is there anything else unique about it?

hi all
sorry for not posting sooner
to start i have no way of posting pics so sorry about that,i also dont have a decent set up,its just a e-motion 50 inch set and a toshiba soundbar.
the only extras are a 14 min interview with scorsese and the trailer
you can watch the film in pcm stereo or dtd-hd master 5.1 audio

sound wise the dts-hd sounds brilliant
picture wise the film looks good in motion, there is grain in the image but not too much.detail seems good and clear.

there is no noticable trademarks apart from universal and mediumrare so i dont know if this is the same master as universal put out before or not.

i only paid £12 for this from amazon and havent seen the universal release so i cant compare them.
i am pleased i finally got this on bluray and i think in my opinion that it was worth it.

hope this helps anyone who is thinking about this.

Hi, thanks for giving us an update.

Which one would you say it more closely resembles?.

Universal:

Criterion:

I own the Universal release, and IMO it has very poor picture quality. I was hoping that the Mediumrare release might have been a nice cheap alternative to the Criterion edition.

Edit: I've just noticed that the Criterion is an AVC encode, but the Universal is VC-1, so that would probably indicate which transfer this is.

I don't own a PS3, but using my Sony player you press the display button on the remote to get the disc info.

It's really frustrating that Mediumrare are reluctant to give out any information about their titles. This release is only worthwhile over the Universal edition if it has a better transfer. A new 14 minute interview doesn't really warrant a double dip!.

on the ps3 the display doesnt state which encode it is but it does hover around the 28mpbs dont know if that helps..

Doesn't the Universal release also have a 14-minute interview and the trailer?

Thanks for checking!

That's the same interview, yeah. If it has the same special features, and Univeral's logo on the back, I'd warrant it's still their transfer.

So what was MediumRare's reason for putting this out if it is the exact same release as the already available Universal Blu-ray? And plus they are charging much more for it...

The Criterion edition will be releasing in the UK on April 22, I believe.
