Outside the Pioneer Elite Plasma sets, the Sony XBR 2-5 series is better than any other maker.
Also, it is well documented that Samsung and many other makers fudge their contrast numbers greatly. Contrast ratio is not that important when comparing side by side. Let your own eyes decide for you what model looks best. Last edited by mgonzo2u; 11-15-2007 at 07:23 PM. |

Man there are alot of sony fans here hope I dont get banned for saying I would go with a 71 series. I agree with "blu red" in that with proper calibration the samsung handles motion, color better than the xbr4. This does not mean the xbr4 is a bad set by any means.

Well to answer the question of the XBR4 vs. the Samsung 71 series, damn it makes it kind of tough considering that they're both 120Hz and all but the XBR4 outweighs the 71 series in a couple of aspects. First of all, the samsung went with the super reflective glossy screen as for the sony stayed true to the lcd's matte finish. Secondly, the whites on the 71 series have a tint of red in them and the reds appear pink, this comes from hours upon hours of looking at the Sharp Aquous emblem that plays in a loop at my local bestbuy. Although the 71 series looks more like an eye pleaser than the XBR4, to me, the XBR4 does do colors better. But if you're a die hard Samsung fiend, glance at the 69 series in the 40" and 46", it has the matte finish as well, along with the 120Hz technology. Oh yeah, I work at the local BestBuy so believe me when I tell you, hours upon hours of looking at f-ing lcds and as much as I would love to have either of these televisions, the XBR4 is the better of the two.

I am planning to sell my Sharp 46" off for about $1000 and get the XBR4. I enjoy the motion flow technology... it's probably one of the first things that caught my eye. It's a personal thing but more people are giving praise to the xbr4 than the samsung. ANyone want a 46" Sharp 62U cheap? Only 11 months old :-)

I'm no hardcore videophile but side-by-side I was much more impressed with the XBRs than any Samsung LCD - or any other LCD TV for that matter. There seemed to be a lot more artifacts in the picture on other TVs so that's why I've now had a 52" XBR4 in my living room since Thursday.
Hasn't disappointed in the least for whatever I'm using it for - PS3 games, Blu-ray movies, anime DVDs, NTSC cable, or using the PC input. I've never been this psyched with a TV since my parents first let me have my own for my room ![]() |
