This is one of my top 5 most wanted titles on bluray. Shout/Scream Factory is the stand out studio this year that just keeps them coming for fantastic films and the year isn't over yet.

First The Abominable Dr. Phibes gets announced, now A Boy and His Dog. Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming. Fantastic news, ABAHD has been on my most wanted lists for years. Awesome sci-fi cult film that I saw on VHS in the mid-1990s as a blind rental when there was nothing else I wanted to see and I did not want to leave Blockbuster empty handed. ABAHD turned out to be nothing like what I was expecting and better than anything I had rented in a long time.

I read that Blood the Dog also played the original dog on the Brady Bunch TV series. Man, what a talented actor.

I remember seeing this in the theater 35+years ago and thinking what a cool movie it was! I've got this on laserdisc;a full frame version and a widescreen one. Maybe I'll hook up a player and watch this today...

Can't wait to get this on Blu-ray!

I guess this the only film LQ Jones directed, he more well known as a top notch charcter actor in films like Hang em High, Wild Bunch, and Casino.

Wow, haven't thought of this movie in a long time. Those of you who have watched in the last few years, does it still hold up?

Tiger??
no way.
I remember when Tiger got lost.
now that was traumatic.

btw: Tiger got killed during the filming of a Brady Bunch episode, so he actually didn't live happily ever after on a farm. He was run over by a pizza delivery truck according to cast members, and was subsequently written out of the show.

Really? That would be awesome if they make it faithful to Ellison's novella. Of course, it needs some great animation as well.

I too saw this movie on video about 20 years ago when i was 12 and i thought it was a neat sci-fi film and i've been a huge fan of Sci-fi for 27 years.

A blu-ray collector's edition should have very good picture and sound with quality extras.

The animated re-adaptation of the novel should be neat, not a remake since remakes and re-adaptations are 2 very different things.

A little deeper "googling" reveals that there were two Tigers. The first was a trained dog that got killed, just as Arkadin says, in the first season of the Brady Bunch during the middle of filming an episode. So the trainer goes to the pound and finds another dog that looks like Tiger. This second dog is Blood.

It seems that the replacement Tiger (our future hero) was rushed onto the set to finish filming the episode, and was then used in subsequent episodes. He was written out of the program after he proved difficult to train in the time schedule required by the show. He was given the name Tiger, same as the first dog. He then went on to become a movie star.

Yeah, rags to riches, baby! A real life pound mutt makes it to the bright lights of Hollywood. I just hope it didn't go to his head. You know, barking orders, treatin' his b*tches bad, wearing gold collars, eating only canned dog food..... I like to think that Tiger remained a simple and humble dog until he finally crossed over to that great big fire hydrant in the sky in 1975, not long after his starring performance in A Boy and His Dog.

I saw it theatrically late last year, and I absolutely had a blast watching it on the big screen.

I saw this film some years back, and I thought it was pretty interesting, but not really great re-watch material. Some excellent bleak humor.
