Funai also intends to start shipping this year next-generation DVD players compatible with the Blu-ray Disc format, supplying the products to domestic and foreign manufacturers on an OEM basis. In the first year, it projects shipments of about 20,000-30,000 units from a Chinese plant.

Wal-mart is going to sell more than that this Friday alone. I've seen the Wal-mart deal on football boards, fishing boards, car and truck boards so far.

yea so what if they Do...which other CE companies are going to be makeing HD DVD players....after this price since the other CE companies were makeing 1080i HD DVD player's that is if they even make them NOW...Toshiba has how many of these made..1 million , 2 million ,5 million...but yet the same problem that has hindered .

Blu-Ray the same people buying them do not want to pay $30.00 per movie. until that price drops per movie and stay's there to be around DVD prices..it will not matter..Toshiba has mad it perfectly clear to the OTHER CE COMPANIES don't need to make HD DVD player's because there is no money in it.

Did sony not do the same thing with the PS3? No other CE manufacturer sells a bd that low that I am aware of.

I'm sure there are people that want HD that don't want a PS3 though so they may be willing to pay a premium.

Toshiba wants to win the format war for the royalties. I don't think they care if they have to do the hardware alone. No one cares that PS3, Wii, and Xbox machines are made by only one company.

Toshiba, sorry, too late, it ain't gonna happen. You shut out all the other CE's and anyone who buys these will not be buying a lot of movies, or will be shocked when it looks the same on their SD-TV, and return them.

Time to throw in the towel.
