What will Toshiba say to the HD DVD consumer when they lose the format war?

They'll have a fire sale of their players and...wait, aren't they doing that now?

"look at the bright side, it's a great DVD player"

I think Toshiba's way out will be via a Combo player, or one that can do all three formats...whatever that new one is called

Some upstart company will offer to rip their HD-DVD's and copy them onto BDR's for a fee.

I dont think people realize how big Toshiba really is... My Dad's business deals a lot with heavy machinery/CNC equipment and Toshiba is a top quality producer of both the machines and the software used to run them. Plus the myriad of other things we don't see they have their hands in on the supply side of the economy. As a whole, I'd say they will be fine.

In other words, they don't care who they hurt in this bid to control HDM patents and licensing.

It would be a grave day for consumerism if HDDVD wins. It would be the equivalent of genocide of consumer rights and perceptions. It would mean that quality no longer matters and that _anything_ can be sold if pitched right. Even if the pitch is full of misinformation. Isn't this exactly how things began in '1984' with Big Brother? HDDVD winning means choice was lost.
How do you think presidents get elected? Because they're the most qualifed candidate?

toshiba will move to a combo player than phase out to blu ray players only. they may choose to keep a combo as part of there line up for 2 years max.

we dont need to guess, it will happen soon enough.
