Has anyone compared the two different WB releases? The stand-alone release is on a BD-25, which the reviewer mentions as a possible contributor to the softness. However, I just noticed that, according to the site, the double release (with The Departed) is on 2 BD-50's - and that the "Ultimate Gangsters Collection" version is also on a BD-50. Just wondering if those releases fare better.

I watched this tonight. Decent transfer. But this would definitely benefit from a remaster or being part of the Paramount Presents line. Would love to see the alternate ending with Gere and Garcia going through a window (it's in one of the trailers). The current Blu-ray has no special features.
This film still holds up. Garcia's intensity and Gere's charisma masking corruption make for compelling viewing. |

I love this movie. I’d go as far as to say it’s Gere’s finest hour. This movie deserves a special edition treatment. I’m pretty sure there is an alternate ending filmed for this

For me it's a tie between this and Primal Fear. Gere is one of my favorite actors but those two films are his best performances IMO.

I've owed this on Blu Ray for years now and finally got around to re-watching the film as I have not seen it since its cinema release. My partner had never seen the film.
Holds up with very with across the board great performances from Richard Gere, Andy Garcia, Laurie Metcalf, Nancy Travis & William Baldwin. Hollywood certainly doesn't make them like this anymore and is all the poorer for not. Richard Gere is really not given the credit his deserves for his talent. I know he has made a lot of duds over the years but he has also made a slew of good to great films in which he has always been a standout. I remember that throughout the 1980's his career was in steep decline that began with King David. Then in 1990 he made a comeback in two totally different films, Internal Affairs (his most diabolical character to date) and Pretty Woman. |

Yeah, 1990 was a great year for Gere, both commercially and critically. This was released in January and it was a nice surprise. A very strong, unexpected performance from him. Plus, I thought he was so handsome with the salt and pepper hair. And, then, of course, the blockbuster Pretty Woman. He was also great in that movie.

Gere can be really solid when given the right role. An Officer and a Gentleman is great and he received a lot of Oscar buzz for Arbitrage.

Watched the Blu-ray once again recently. Uses L.A locations very well. Gere has perhaps never been better (apart from American Gigolo) than he is here.

Agree that Gere's great with the right material. Kind of was in that bubble as Swayze and others who had great acting chops but a lot of people more associated them with mainstream blockbuster romantic roles despite playing tough gritty characters as well. And for the record, I really like the aforementioned romances.

I’ve never seen this film, but would like to. Interesting thing I found out, watching a special feature on the Criterion Deep Cover is that that film was written as a sequel to Internal Affairs but it was never produced. Instead Deep Cover was made to be independent of it.

Internal Affairs is being released as a part of the second set of After Dark: Neo Noir (Australian series) along with the Kathryn Bigelow film Blue Steel starring Jamie Lee Curtis and a few other modern noir films.
The special features for Internal Affairs look quite nice: 1080p High-definition presentation on Blu-ray NEW Audio commentary by film critics Alain Silver and James Ursini NEW The Clever and the Corrupt – interview with director Mike Figgis NEW His Most Dangerous Weapon – interview with screenwriter Henry Bean NEW One Bad Cop – interview with co-composer Anthony Marinelli Extended & Deleted Scenes Alternative Ending Trailer Aspect Ratio 1.78:1 Audio English DTS-HD 5.1 Surround + LPCM 2.0 Stereo Optional English subtitles I don't believe I've ever seen any deleted scenes for this film or an alternate ending. I wonder if this will get a release on Paramount Presents or Paramount will issue it in 4K. Last edited by disco1979; 11-30-2022 at 01:54 AM. |
