The film brought in three quarters of a BILLION dollars worldwide. Like it or not, that is better than moderately successful.

It's all relative. It certainly made money, but not nearly as much as it could've made considering the franchise. In my opinion, "moderately successful" is being too kind. It was clearly a disappointment. In terms of box office numbers, the Amazing Spider-Man is easily the least successful entry in the franchise. It did a lot worse than Spider-Man 3, a film that wasn't even good enough to warrant a sequel.

Domestic Gross (adjusted for inflation)
  • $552M - Spider-Man
  • $448M - Spider-Man 2
  • $388M - Spider-Man 3
  • $267M - The Amazing Spider-Man

Worldwide Gross (adjusted for inflation)
  • $1.12B - Spider-Man
  • $1.03B - Spider-Man 3
  • $1.00B - Spider-Man 2
  • $0.77B - The Amazing Spider-Man

This is particularly disturbing when you consider that the franchise took a 5-year hiatus before doing a full reboot. The relative lack of interest people had in TASM doesn't bode well for the sequel. If a 5-year hiatus didn't drum up interest in the franchise, then imagine how 4 films in 8 years would have on box office numbers.

Looking at the trend of Spider-Man films, it's a fair bet that TASM2 to be even less successful than TASM... which was already the least profitable film in the franchise.

The only reason Sony greenlit TASM3 and TASM4 is to prevent the rights from reverting back to Marvel. It's making money, and they don't want to lose it to Marvel. So they'll just milk it dry.

And when does Shrek 6 come out? Some time after Godzilla 3?

(Anything can happen between now and the best-laid plans of franchise sequels. ANYTHING. Spiderman 3 should alone remind us of that.
A studio would best be prepared for surprises.)

I was glad to read that the suit would be more like the Toby McGuire Spiderman suit in the next one

I hope this series continues to use villains that weren't already featured in the Raimi films. That's one positive thing I think we can all agree on.

Is it confirmed that the 4th film is actually the Sinister Six film? Cuz 4 Amazing Spider-Man films have been announced. And then they announced the 2 spin-offs. So maybe the Sinister Six film is seperate from TASM 4 film franchise.

Still a lot of clarification needed.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Didn't they OFFICIALLY announce part 4 a while back?

I absolutely loved the first one so I can't wait to see what they'll do with the franchise
Killing off Gwen Stacy would be foolish. Emma Stone is the main attraction of the current Spider Man Series.

I don't think I know even 1 person that dislikes Emma Stone (not within my social circle at least).

Well let us look at the signs:

We have a character who we all know has to die.

We have a report that Mary Jane was supposed to be in this one but has been pushed back to the third.

We have on set pictures of Emma Stone wearing the same outfit that Gwen was wearing in the comics when she died. And she is next to water in those pictures...perhaps a bridge is nearby.

And finally...we now know a Green Goblin is in this movie.

I'd say yeah, she's gonna die in this one.

If Gwen Stacy is killed off, I'm finished with this Spider Man Series. I know I am far from the only person that feels this way.

Which is why it's a bit strange supposedly Mary-Jane is not in this, she meets Peter through Gwen and then they start dating. Perhaps Webb is going to deviate wildly from that, who knows?

Emma Stone's great as Gwen but surely they have to kill her off in this trilogy. Her death is one of the most famous moments in comic history. Seeing it in film would be amazing albeit a little heartbreaking.
