I just ordered it on Amazon. It's hard for me to justify a $65 purchase, but I wanted to get 2001, and could get free shipping if I had them mailed together.
I LOVE Planet Earth so much. $65 is still a really good deal. This is still the BD that has amazed me the most. It is a prime example of why we need HighDef discs, not SD. LOVE the shallow water episode. My jaw was dropped for like ten minutes straight ![]() |

Ok, why is it that the only hddvd title I've ever seen beating blu is planet earth? it shot up on amazon(hddvd) almost 20 above blu a minute ago. wtf right?
Also according to this weeks nielsen numbers, hddvd's version beat ours by about 2 to 1 or more? I know in total sales we're probably beating it and we beat it last week but we still rape hddvd sales on 300 and other shared titles week after week. Anyways I just ordered mine off of Amazon. Does anyone have a good explanation for this? I want out numbers to be higher everyweek on everything!! lol. Blu ftw! |

Planet Earth is an awesome documentary.
There are some incredible scenes from the Ocean Deep episode: - birds diving in the share the food as the dolphins are feeding as a team. - the 'cloud' of herring swimming right next to the whale with other fishes preying, and suddenly the attack begins... - just too many scenes to mention. Anyways, it is certainly one that you can enjoy with your friends to show off your home theatre setup and blu-ray. At the amazon price, I think I am getting a deal as well as supporting some very worthwhile projects. |

There were definitely PQ issues on my copy, which I just got a couple of weeks ago. Wish I'd checked and found out there was another version coming. I don't have a problem with the narrator, but I haven't seen the other version so I couldn't say which I'd prefer. Sucks that I bought a bad PQ version... I was hoping PE would be a great way to show off BD.

I think the BBC/Warner High Def versions had quite a few picture glitches and a different person talking. I didn't have any issues with mine, but I liked the Weaver PE better. These two issues coupled with the rumor that another Blu-Ray version of the Weaver PE would be coming out in the next few months, most people have decided against purchasing PE for now. I know I did. Price was pretty high too, but CostCo had it pretty cheap for a while.

Ok...hands up...who still hasn't purchased Planet Earth on blu?
I occasionally look at the sales, and it seems that the HD-DVD version is still winning. It's one of the only (if not THE only) HD-DVDs that outsells it's Blu-ray companion. I know there have been a few threads on this, but I think it's important to bring to people's attention how beautiful this show really is, and how much of a High Def necessity it is. It was my third blu-ray purchase (after Casino Royal and The Fifth Element) and it's definitely one of my most treasured of my 30+ blu-ray collection (which is growing fast). The slow motion capture, and time lapse shots in high def are amazing...not to mention the amazing long distance shots using who knows how big of a zoom... For those of you that don't have it, find that BBC version and pick it up as soon as you can. Even if only for this part in high definition slow motion capture: ![]() The version sold from the Warner Store is still the original narration version: http://whv.warnerbros.com/WHVPORTAL/....jsp?OID=30877 (that might be a good thing to pick up with that 25% coupon NVBM). So is Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Earth-C...4035563&sr=8-1 If for some reason you want the Sigourney Weaver version: http://shopping.discovery.com/produc...red-PlanetEart Last edited by cathexist; 11-02-2007 at 08:35 PM. |

Wouldnt the BBC version NOT count towards the sales figures here int he states?
I cant imagine Amazon.com sells the BBC version, so maybe all the Bluray fans were all just smart enough to go get that version while the HDDUDers are buying the US version on Amazon? |

Amazon has the BBC version. AFAIK the only way to get the US version is buying direct from that TV add you see on Discovery channel.
