MS didn't claim it, Film studio's cited it as a reason for reduced attendance.

In contrast PS3 actually is good for the Movie Studios as they host lots of HD movie trailers. Both coming soon and to BR.

XBox Live hosts movie trailers too. The Blu-ray ones on the PSN are nice though.

I don't get it though.

Once upon a time Microsoft bashing was fashionable and done with good reason, people seem to have short memories and forget, weird!

I keep repeating myself and I hope others repeat it, but I fear HD-DVD will be positioned to become the new DIVX. Whereas on the HDUD fanbots are touting that Blu-ray is doing this....weird when NO existing BD player supports internet connectivity nor is it mandatory. Whereas for HDUD network connectivity is a mandatory part of the spec.

M$ backed format, HDi and network connectivity. As I KEEP REPEATING AND I SWEAR I HOPE EVERY BD FAN POSTS THIS ALL OVER THE DAMNED FRACKING INTERNET, HD-DVD is a trojan horse product! mark my words! Just letting Microsoft further into your lives!

Spread it!
spread it!
SPREAD IT!

M$ is a virus.
It is the way they work. They destroy that which gets in their way, or absorbs it into their own. They release products with hidden agendas.. for example the reason quicktime for windows would never work with IE on pc was because M$ specifically programmed IE to stop working with it, so people would want to use the M$ products and not their competitors. It's like they think they own your computer now that their system is on it.
The release unfinished products with the intent to use the users around the world as BETA testers... like that have done with every version of WINDOWS!
M$ only wants you to buy their products, adhere to their standards, give them your money. I say they are greedy bastards bent on corporate world domination, intent on taking over anything and everything electronic that they can so that they can control everything however they want to.
Soon your toast will have the M$ logo on it when it comes out of the toaster...
Avoid M$ all you can. By Mac or Linux, use iTunes and iPods or other music players, avoid the Zune. Avoid the XBOX if you can, and avoid HD-DVD like the plague.

And people wonder why Bill Gates is leaving his own company! Mr. Moore who was in charge of the X-Box division of MS got out as well, the red ring of death was to much for him

This is true. I was under the impression that since Microsoft has released the 360s with HDMI most of the hardware problems (I believe its the hardware) causing the RROD were fixed. However there were several customers that came in BB after buying the 360 with the 2 games package to exchange it b/c they had the RROD. I couldn't believe it! I had no idea this was still going on. We still get 360s exchanged about every day at my store (customers that have the replacement plan) but I didn't know the new ones had this problem. We had to xchange 5 360s yesterday.

I was thinking about getting one to check out some of the exclusives but I'll just stick to my ps3.

imo halo 3 was one of the greatest disappointments in gaming history. never has a mediocre game been so over hyped. im not saying the game was bad, but in no way dose it deserve the following it has.

Did you guy not find it extremely funny how in his retort he started talking about the 360 and Halo? I twas suppose to be a response to M$ supporting HD-DUD and it turned into some 360 FUD and some quick PS3 bashing. What a jackass.
Must be the standard M$ employee clone...pull string....360 roolz... Halo 3 best game of all time.....Sony wants to eat your babies.

I think the $399 PS3 should even up sales a bit. However, it doesn't mean much to me personaly since I hate console gaming. MS does like to dominate every aspect of media that it dives into and it always scares me if and when they get serious about destroying the competition. XBox didn't fare to well vs. PS2 so they are historicaly weak in that area at least.

Damn, I didn't know that....
Up until the sales this last week I would bet that the XBOX360 add-on drive had also outsold HD DVD dedicated (or standalone) players. Hard to say now as they might be close, but the HD DVD format is also very dependent on gamers at the moment. I found it rather funny when Kevin got up and talked about how well the add-on was doing at a convention in Europe and Ken Graffeo got up right after and said they didn't trust gamers to buy movies. Especially given how important the add-on has been to HD DVD sales and that if a person has an XBOX360 with an add-on they are pretty much guaranteed to be a gamer, but a person with a PS3 isn't necessarily a gamer given what a great Blu-ray player it is. They might have just bought it to use like a standalone (something that wouldn't make a lot of sense to do with an XBOX360 and add-on). While a person buying a PS3 as basically a standalone isn't likely to be a negative for Blu-ray compared to if they had bought a standalone, it allows people like Ken Graffeo to spin things in a way to not count them (except when it helps his numbers).

Anybody else notice these parts:
Quote:
If you look historically at the attach rates (i.e. the number of DVDs purchased per DVD player) you will see that game consoles have a single-digit attach rate, while dedicated DVD players have an attach rate in the mid-20s ...
...
... HD DVD has an attach rate just below four-to-one.
I realize that DVD players on average have probably been owned longer, but still found that interesting. There may be a lot of people using them largely for upscaling or renting instead of buying at the same rates as DVD player owners buy. At one time one HD DVD backer was claiming that HD DVD had an average attach rate of over 20 and that wasn't even annualized (the claim was 20+ discs owned average when the format was ~6 months old). The HD DVD group was claiming an annualized attach rate of 28 at one point with an absolute attach rate of 8 and now Kevin is saying 4.

And as far as the reason PSP owners don't buy UMD movies, I disagree that it is because compelling games came along. I think there are much bigger reasons, like other ways to get video on the road, like the iPod. If something comes along to replace high definition on discs in a way that the iPod largely took over portable video, it will affect both formats.

Y'know what's funny about the M$ response; they talk about how XBox users spend more hours playing games than watching movies, conveniently ignoring how very different PlayStation users are.

PS2 had DVD built right in; XB needed an extra peripheral. Aside from that, most ppl who got XBoxes already had PS2s, hence, didn't need the DVD parts.

Fact is, the DVD player inside is what propelled PS2 to a big early userbase lead.

Default This is totally NUTS!!! Brainless speech from Microsoft

Quote:
...execs in Hollywood have attributed the declining box office revenues to the “Halo effect,” where customers are staying at home playing Halo 3 instead of coming to the movie theater.
First of all.. Hi to everybody in here. I am new and I would like to share some stuff in the site, I've been reading the threads for some time. This is my first post. I can't believe how MS dares to say people stop going to the movies because of the sh*tty Halo!!!! I just think of them as a bunch of monkeys playing twister while at work. Wow... just think, this is how the world spins!!
I am really sorry for them.
Best,

Just more arrogance from Microsoft acting as if they are the innocent hurt child. Of course everyone is aware what their goal is...and yes, the studios are aware of it.

At least those in the Blu camp.
