Ewan and Liam salvaged Phantom Menace

I would like a Obi Wan spinoff but hopefully they don't do too many SW spinoffs

And Darth Maul aka the most wasted character ever in the entire franchise.

I'm really glad he was brought back for The Clone Wars animated series.

I still personally think that he should have been the main Sith villain in the prequels after Palpatine instead of Count Dooku, even though Christopher Lee is brilliant.

I would definitely by down with seeing Ewan MacGregor play Obi Wan again. I just wont believe it is happening until we get a little more concrete proof.

Obi-Wan is the best damned character in the entire franchise, so they should definitely make a spinoff movie.

I've got several spinoffs I'd like to see:

[Show spoiler]- Obi-Wan Kenobi after the events of Episode III. I imagine this will tie into the Jedi purge as other Jedi are hunted throughout the galaxy.
- Yoda movie in the style of Wong Kar Wai's film "The Grandmaster". Essentially Yoda ascends from a humble Jedi to the leader of the Jedi Order.
- Dooku and young Qui-Gon. We'll get to see Dooku leave the Jedi Order and his interactions with his padawan. Perhaps a Ciaran Hinds or Jeremy Irons type as younger Dooku and Benjamin Walker as young Qui-Gon?
- A middle-aged Qui-Gon movie starring Liam Neeson (looks pretty much the same). Qui-Gon's a loose cannon but the best they've got. He causes lots of trouble for an angry and shouty Mace Windu. By the end, Qui-Gon learns responsiblity and is given a young padawan nicknamed "Ben".
- A younger Han Solo and his good pal Chewbacca navigate the seedy underworld of the galaxy and rise through the ranks as smugglers. We witness old rivalries with Greedo, friendships form with a young gangster with political aspirations named Lando, and the rise of Jabba the Hutt!
- Max Rebo and his band starring in an epic "Blues Brothers" style musical comedy.
- Young Mace Windu. I really have no ideas for this one but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to cook something up.

All of these movies would be as paint-by-numbers as you'd imagine them to be.

Great ideas, I'd love to see those Obi-Wan and Count Dooku films.

The Max Rebo one you mentioned would be pretty cool too. "We're on a mission from Jabba".

It should simply be called Star Wars: Obi-Wan.

I know there's a Star Wars rumour almost every other day, but this is one I hope comes through. I loved Ewan McGregor's performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi, which was easily the best part of the prequel trilogy, and I find it hard to resist seeing him come back in some way.

This is a actually one standalone that is worth doing since there was so much wasted potential with this great character in the Prequels.

Rumor: Obi-Wan Kenobi Stand-Alone Film In The Works

As little as we know about Star Wars Episode VII, we know even less about the Star Wars stand-alone films. We know Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank and directing the first two. We’ve heard they may be origin stories and rumors have run rampant of all the various characters that might be featured. Han Solo and Boba Fett are two of the best bets, but Yoda has been mentioned too, possibly a side character in Episode VII and now another name has entered the mix. A new rumor has hit that Lucasfilm is developing an Obi Wan Kenobi stand alone film. Out of all of those rumors, this is the one that makes the most sense.

The Obi Wan Kenobi stand alone film rumor comes from a source at MakingStarWars. Here’s the excerpt:

Quote:
Obi-Wan Kenobi – I’ve heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I’m hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website etc) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie.
The official site voting mentioned there is the recent This is Madness Tournament, where Kenobi was voted the top character of all Star Wars characters including Han Solo, Boba Fett, Yoda, even Darth Vader. That’s incredibly surprising when you look at merchandising and stuff, where characters like Vader, Fett and Solo dominate. However, The Clone Wars is incredibly popular with kids and Kenobi is a big star on that. The younger Star Wars generation has certainly embraced Kenobi and lead to his surge in popularity.

As for logistics, Lucasfilm already has a wonderful and popular actor in the role: Ewan McGregor. That takes casting, arguably the biggest hurdle in these stand-alone films, out of the equation entirely. Plus, McGregor himself has said he’d love to return as Kenobi and even offered his own idea of what could happen in a Obi Wan Kenobi stand alone film.

In the video, if you can’t watch it, McGregor says the only time period he could get away with would be between Episodes III and IV. That would also allow the film to tie into, or allow references to, the events in Star Wars Rebels. We know that series will tease at Episode VII and Lucasfilm is all about synergy in the new films. All things considered, an Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone movie almost seems like it should be the first one in 2016. They have the star, they have the tight window for a story, they have a popular character and they would get zero blow back from fans who might not want to see Han Solo as a kid or Boba Fett learning to fly.

What are your thoughts on a Obi Wan Kenobi stand alone film?

Would love it.

Love McGregor's work, and Obi Wan was indeed the best thing about the prequels (besides Yoda's fights lol).

Bring it on! McGregor was by far the best thing about the prequels. I would love to see him as Obi-Wan again!

I agree, McGregor was great as Obi-Wan, so I'd love to see him return to the role.

I think that's the most overlooked thing amidst the bashing of the prequels. McGregor made it his own and somehow managed to channel Alec Guinness at the same time. He was the most compelling character for me throughout.
That being said, I don't want to see Obi Wan' s parents, or him growing up as a kid. It's unnecessary and smacks of milking the franchise as the rumors of all these spin-offs do. I wish they'd stick with the numbered sequels alone.

Pretty sure this film would be set between 3 and 4. Lots of ground to cover with Obi-Wan's time on Tatooine before the start of A New Hope. Spinoffs have the potential to explore character arcs the regular trilogy episodes may not. I honestly think it's a good thing they're happening.

It would be awesome seeing Ewan McGreggor as Obi-Wan again, so between III and IV would be perfect. In fact I'd be more excited for that than any of the new Star Wars films.

I'd also love to see a Qui-Gonn movie. You just can't have enough of Liam Neeson with a lightsaber.
