On the actual PS4 case there is a sticker that says 30 Day Free Subscription. So that & this bolded text from IGN now has me thinking no, this game out of box new requires a paid subscription service through Square.

Pretty sure I heard the words "Free on PS4" sometime around E3 last year.

14 has always been a subscription game like 11 before it. The ps4 version was free to upgrade if you had the ps3 version but you'd still have to pay a sub.

FF14 was never free on PS4. You can upgrade from PS3 to PS4 for free but the subscription was always there and never taken away.

If this was the only game out in the world I could justify a price but time is limited & there are plenty of other non-paying games to be played & much better too.

This will prob be the first PS4 game that will been released that I will not buy.

I've played the PS3 version and it's pretty nice but I'm excited for the PS4 version. I'm hoping I enjoy the controls more with a keyboard and mouse - it's going to feel like WoW all over again.

Looking forward to trying it on PS4. Just got the PS3 version delivered today, took forever to log in and update everything. But at least I got to carry over my character from the last Beta.

The beta should be free to play. I played through the beta on PS3 and PC before and I didn't need a credit card. The only thing you need to do is create a free Square Enix account to play the beta. I imagine this process will go for the PS4.

For the first beta. For the second, progress will carry over.

I don't think it's odd, if they're adding new servers and new framework for another platform they should test it because any kind of change to the code could introduce new bugs.

If you launch the beta you can update the launcher, but the servers are still down so you can't download anything else yet. Hopefully they allow downloading of the game starting today sometime.

It is just a way to get people hooked.

PS4 game plays on the same servers as the other versions (there are no ps4 only servers... Servers are all cross platform for PC, ps3, ps4).

Think of it more as free access for the next few weeks. Most mmo's do this from time to time to gain new players.

There's Beta because the current PS3 UI does not allow Keyboards and Mice, also it does not have Vita support like the PS4 version does. They Current PS3 version also does not work the same way with the touch features of the PS4 Controller. A month to test and resolve said issues is more then enough.

Guys as a current XIV player I can tell you there is a a lot of good in the game, there is also a lot of bad. Current content lockouts, poor community and RMT based economy restrictions at times makes the game almost unbearable to play at endgame.

The game is a good game but the developers really do need to get there heads out of there asses and do more to help those at endgame. They really do not realize that the 10% currently doing endgame content is what is going to drive there game for years. Also the backwards releasing of Endgame Dungeons and Middle Dungeons to Entry level Dungeons is retarded. The vertical progression of gear I can deal with but the way they are releasing it is really just painful, not to mention I log in Monday-Wednesday and finish everything for the most part, then there is nothing for me to do the rest of the week due to lockouts. For a new player starting out yes there is plenty to do, but once you reach endgame be warned.
