Oh man, I already pre-ordered a copy (Japanese). I can't wait for the release of this! It's been a while since I played some GG.

The demo is out on the JPN PSN store.
The game is supposedly still on track for a December 4th release in Japan, and is still -supposedly- on track for a "holiday 2014" release in NA (December?).

It looks amazing (from the screenshots)...

The cover for the limited edition is also pretty epic

[Show spoiler]

I was planning to buy this at the end of the year, but it seems hard to believe that localization will take only a week or two. More likely we have another one to throw on the (massive) early 2015 pile.

I could buy it on my Japanese account, though, hmmm...

Officially launching 12/16/2014 in NA!!!

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/...this-december/

I'd say the offering of PS exclusives is actually not too shabby this end of year, in spite of what some would have you believe

- TLOU remake: released in August but still very relevant, as shown by the sales rankings. 200 GOTY awards in 2013 will probably still make it a must own this holidays I think.
- Driveclub: Once -sigh- the online will be fixed. People seem to really be enjoying it, but Evo has really screwed up pretty bad on that one
- Singstar: Not my cup of tea, but hugely popular franchise it seems
- LBP 3: Looks amazing. Might be the sleeper hit of the year now that I've seen the tools demo with the pinball level and a pseudo Zelda/ Mario 3D world, as well as the "Silent Hills" pic type
- Guilty Gears Xrd Sign: Not into fighter games, but I have to admit this looks really amazing

The only thing missing for Sony to really bring it is imo a big Bundle. wonder if/ when they would announce a GTA PS4 bundle?
Oh, and announcing the date for firmware 2.0. Still think end of November/ early December for release.

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Official Trailer | PS4, PS3 - YouTube

The exclusive thing is plenty debatable, as Sony has some amazing studios that are taking quite a bit of time on getting their games out, but I am very happy that Guilty Gear releases this year. December is usually barren when it comes to releases, and a month will be just long enough for my wallet to recover from the dreaded November 18th. (Dragon Age, LBP3, Far Cry 3, and I think I'm forgetting one...EDIT: just looked at Derb's release list, thank God I'm not)

Is the demo only on the JPN store only for PS Plus? I checked the store and it seemed only to be for Plus, with a date of 10/29 flashing over it and Japanese characters that were too complex for my limited Nipponese skills.

NA Cover art censored

As long as the actual character model isn't censored i'm fine with it.

That seems really silly, especially since at stores such as Walmart, the magazine section is usually right next to the game section. That slight amount of cartoon bewbage might harm young eyes, but those four girls in thongs on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition (or a naked Prince Fielder on the ESPN body issue) are protected artwork. (I don't think either are a big deal at all).

Japan has a lot ickier (and that is the word) cartoon covers to offer than a bit of excessive cleavage.

It does seem really silly as the original picture actually doesn't show anything in the first place.

Yeah, I could understand if she was doing anything sexual, say, licking a whip like Poison from Street Fighter, but she's just standing there with a low cut top.

I agree I have seen much much worse box arts not get censored. Hell the gta5 box art has a woman in a worse outfit and pose than this cover.

Ha, yeah, I just looked at my GTA 4 Collector's Edition Box. It has a girl in a low cut top and midriff licking a lollipop with all the subtlety of a porn star. I bought that at Target, so apparently that was fine for the children.

Yeah, same with the Evil Within box art which shows a guys face wrapped in barbed wire. It's weird how they choose what gets censored and what doesn't.

Yeah it can be weird to see those little mods, but I suspect it has to do with both the audience target (Guilty Gears is a T for Teen, while Evil Within and GTA V are M), and also our (American) society, where violence/ horror is often more accepted than sex/ nudity.

It's really pointless to censor that. With the way the cover was already, you can hardly even see the cleavage because of that background coloring being kind of identical(even though once you do you realize that those are not small).

I know some NA retailers seem to have some annoying issues with game covers with cleavage like how Catherine had the censored coverart and the uncensored one for retailers who did not care about the cleavage. If that's the problem here, Aksys could have either done the same thing or just create a whole new cover image since there's probably a lot of optional ideas for covers Arc System Works made.

Besides it's just a shirt that's just a little open in the cleavage area. It's not like she's naked, can see her panties and/or bra and she's more covered up than having a bathing suit.

Online features detailed:

http://gematsu.com/2014/11/guilty-ge...tures-detailed

Quote:
Lobbies

Open lobbies can hold up to 64 players. Much like in the PS3 version of the recently released Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, players can chat with one another outside of matches here.
Individual match settings can be customized prior to fighting in order to create rooms with an appropriate atmosphere and audience.
In addition to actually joining in on fights directly, players can also watch other people’s matches within lobbies.

Fights

Training Mode is available online for two players.
All players, be they the ones actually fighting or just watching from sideline, can type into chat at any time during a match.
In individual match lobbies, players can interject preset messages that have voiced lines attached spoken by the game’s cast.
Players use in-game currency to buy songs from throughout Guilty Gear series history and use them as the background music for fights.

Replay Theater

Players can now not only save replay data of matches to their consoles locally, but they can also upload them online.
Replay data can viewed frame-by-frame, as well affix short comments to them. Up to four of these can be attached to players’ R-Code, or their personal online data, which can then be viewed by others.

Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- for PS4 feels like high school. And that, surprisingly, is high praise. I obsessed over Guilty Gear X when it launched on PS2. My friends and I picked apart every fighter on the roster, experimented with particular match-ups, rocked out to the soundtrack for hours, and even developed inside jokes based on the fighter intro quips.

And with Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, the team at ARC System Works is plugging a high-voltage generator into the series and flipping the switch with a smirk. The latest Guilty Gear, which hits PS4 and PS3 on December 16th, embraces everything about the series’ roots while reworking every visual component on screen. Even after spending time with an early build of the PS4 version, Xrd -Sign- is a flood of great memories.

If you’re new to the series, Guilty Gear is a highly stylized 2D fighter with one of the most eccentric rosters to ever grace a fighting game. Do you want a charming vampire boxer? How about a pirate girl with dolphins for weapons? Or perhaps a tall, repenting surgeon with a bag over his head and a giant scalpel in hand? Yes, series favorites like Slayer, May and Faust return in Xrd -Sign- — many sporting a new look.

ARC System Works has fused 2D and 3D art styles together, allowing for a jaw-dropping switch between each perspective at key moments. Intros and outros use stunning 3D models, but when the duel begins the models appear as high-resolution, 2D sprites. It’s a marriage of two drastically different visual styles, and it looks excellent. And fortunately for fighting enthusiasts, it plays well, too.

Xrd -Sign- is as fast and frantic as you would expect from ARC System Works, with heart-pounding battles that litter the screen with effects, fire blasts, and the occasional bullet shell. True to Guilty Gear’s legacy, each fighter has a punch, kick, slash, and heavy slash, as well as a bevy of special moves that can close gaps, push/pull opponents, and generally control the spaces around the fighters.

Even with my antiquated knowledge of Guilty Gear, Sol’s and Ky’s movesets came rushing back to me without a hitch — the fighters even have a few new tricks up their tightly-buckled sleeves. If you want to familiarize yourself with the basics, Xrd -Sign- comes packed with dozens of tutorials and training options to help you get a feel for the basics, and also push your knowledge of each fighter further.

Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-

Besides its basic versus modes, Xrd -Sign- features an arcade mode, story mode, and loads of other challenges and unlockables (Including a gallery!). ARC System Works is filling out Xrd -Sign- with lots to do outside of traditional fights.

Even without the full roster unlocked, I spent a long while just getting reacquainted with the fighting systems that Guilty Gear has used for so many years, from Faultless Defense to Roman Cancels. These systems encourage players to stay aggressive and flow between offense and defense with almost staggering quickness.

Xrd -Sign- is aimed squarely at those long-time fans that have followed Guilty Gear for years. It’s a fiery, rock ‘n’ roll reboot for the series, and a screaming reminder that Sol Badguy is still a total badass.

Nice article. Hopefully my wallet will have recovered sufficiently from November 18th to get this for Christmas.
