I missed this around the time Play.com were shutting shop ; they were selling it for the same price, as I recall. I'll have to keep this in mind, as I'm gonna have to watch my finances this month.

Or you can buy it from Base.com where its £8.99, pretty sure they ship internationally and remove VAT (Value Added Tax=17.5%) as well.

This is region free, right?
So far, Base.com is the cheapest option (L11.98 total, or @ $19.30 for US purchasers). |

There are films that are so bad they're good. In the case of (ha!) Basket Case it's a film so atrocious it's amazing! But this tale of a shy young man and his monstrously deformed twin is not one of unintentional laughter. Director Frank Hennenlotter is entirely aware of his Z-budget limitations and instead of being modest, flaunts them. The terrible writing, lousy acting, and obviously fake rubber prosthetics are presented with a saucy wink of the eye, and a genuine affection for the exploitation genre, which makes it a fun watch.
While Arrow have announced a new restoration of the first film, I opted for the existing Basket Case Trilogy armaray from Second Sight, which was going for an easy 10 quid at the time of ordering. While the upcoming transfer may be better, this one, is still pretty good, colorful and grainy, and looking to be in line with one's expectations of low-budget 16mm material. The LPCM 2.0 audio is boxy but loud and clear. Haven't dug into the supplements as yet, but they sound quite promising, including a feature length documentary called "What's in the Basket?" Also need to see the sequels some time soon. ![]() |

Played rather broadly for laughs, the most extreme moments in Frank Henenlotter's Basket Case 3: The Progeny are in its reprisals of footage from the first two films (especially the gonzo climax of the Freaks-inspired BC2). But even in its tame-ness the film offers a fair share of grotesque laughs, and the low-rent duct-tape spoof of the Aliens mech duel is a hoot.
The transfer is decent and colorful, if a little on the soft side. The abundant prosthetic make-up served nicely. LPCM 2.0 audio is clear enough if not immersive. There are no extras apart from those present on the BC1 disc. ![]() |
