Hmmm, pretty tough call.
Only saw the first Child's Play, so I couldn't vote on that rightfully. I do enjoy the Evil Dead movies, but I'm more of a casual fan, and I wouldn't call it a favorite. The Final Destination films are fun and wicked, but I also wouldn't call it a favorite. I don't think... Only saw the first Friday the 13th, and I didn't care for it. Never was a big Halloween fan; I never was as taken with John Carpenter's film like everybody else. I do like the second, third, and fourth films, but hated number six, H20, and Halloween: Resurrection. I generally like the Omen films, except for the DTV fourth film. Wouldn't consider myself a big enough fan to call it a favorite. I do enjoy all the Resident Evil films, but they have their share of weaknesses. I really only like the first Saw film. Never got into the Scream movies. My parents hated them, so I haven't been all that motivated to see them. Only saw a few Texas Chainsaw films. They're alright. Sooooo...I guess if I have a favorite horror film franchise, it would have to be "Other." Most likely the Underworld series, or the Alien/Predator/Prometheus universe. |

Phantasm
Four near-perfect films with no failures between them. Of the ones listed, probably F13, because it's batting 12-1 (I don't like Jason Goes To Hell, even though I personally don't mind the remake, and like Manhattan enough to quote it in my signature). Nightmare is also pretty consistent, no bad films there really, and I am one of the few who liked the remake. If nothing else, it was dark and gritty as all get out. Halloween has the best individual movies of the big 3, but also some genuinely awful ones in the middle (I like both Zombieweens a lot, though). Texas Chainsaw 1 is probably the best film in any of these series, but the rest of the series can't hold up, they are funny though. Child's Play does nothing for me whatsoever, I don't find dolls scary in the first place, so already it has a disadvantage. I just find those boring. Puppet Master is an INFINITELY superior series in that regard. Final Destination is too teen-y, although there are some good kills. I liked the last one quite a bit, actually. Evil Dead, to be quite honest, I love the first film, but 2 and Army of Darkness just don't get me. Honestly, I'd probably put the recent remake ahead of AoD. I hate the Saw franchise, it's neither gory enough to qualify as a fun gore-house franchise, nor even remotely smart enough to qualify as a good psychological thriller. Hostel is MUCH better than Saw. Scream can choke to death, I hate every one of those films with prejudice. They are ineffective parodies/send-ups/satires of slashers, and they are terrible horror flicks in their own right. Four horrid films, I'll die not knowing what Craven was thinking. If My Bloody Valentine (one film and one remake) counts as a franchise, that might give Phantasm a run for its money, because those are two extraordinarily great films. |

Voted for Friday the 13th, I can watch those over and over. Halloween started out with one of the best horror movies ever but the sequels aren't up to snuff for the most part, especially after part 3 where they lose the John Carpenter atmosphere and become more generic horror movies. Nightmare on Elm Street I also enjoy but the quality really fell off a cliff after part 4.

Child's Play is the best of the ones listed. The original Texas Chain Saw Massacre is my fav. horror film of all-time, but the series overall is pretty hit or miss. If Nightmare on Elm St. were an option, I may have selected that - part 3 is just too damn awesome.

Halloween all the way for me. I think the quality is there for most of the entries, and I've always loved that Loomis/Myers relationship. That's the one thing that puts Myers way above Voorhees imo. Voorhees never had an Ishmael type character that's constantly hunting him. And Myers is downright scary in some entries, whereas Jason has never been scary for me.
But you really can't sway anyone when it comes to horror characters. People will always stand by who they love, just as I will haha. |
