Do you know what extras are on the Japanese release? Shame they couldn't include Kore-Eda's talk at the London Film Festival last year although you can watch it on the BFI player.

Saw this film (Arrow's Family Values BD pack) last night. As with other Kore Eda films, very well made with onus on human emotions from the youngsters' perspective. I shudder to think what the proposed Hollywood remake is going to be like.

Though I enjoyed Like Father, Like Son very much, I could not help comparing it with the similarly themed (but totally different setting) Lorraine Levy's The Other Son. I felt that the setting of the two families in turbulent and ideologically divided Israel offered far greater challenges than peaceful contemporary Japan and so give the French film the edge.

I strongly suggest that those who have seen and enjoyed Like Father, Like Son to get The Other Son(Cohen Collection - Region Free). Really worth it.

Doubtful anyone will see this but Apple TV UK has a 4K version for this and I Wish showing up now ! They gotta be new scans, otherwise seems random to get an upscale just for those two films.

I enjoyed Like Father, Like Son from the Arrow Family Values set very much and I've yet to watch my Arrow release of Life Is a Long Quiet River which prompted Kore-eda's "remake". Its events were based on a real life swapped babies case in France.

They're not available on Apple directly, they're through Mubi, so streaming only there for subscribers. The Arrow versions that are available to buy are still HD.
Interesting that Mubi have got them though, I don't think they have a 4K disc release anywhere and neither are streaming on amazon Japan in 4K.
