Here's hoping "Roots" is coming in its original eight-part ABC version. Listening, WB?

Looking forward to owning this!

I would also like to own these eventually on BD:

"Holocaust"
"Roots" and "Roots: The Next Generation"
"Taken"
"The Thorn Birds"
the upcoming "To Appomattox (aka "Grant v Lee") http://www.toappomattox.com/
"V" (1983) and "V: The Final Battle" (1984)
"The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance"

and not a miniseries but an excellent TV drama

"The Day After" (1983) (127 minute version with intended theatrical ratio of 1.78:1)

The UK companion film about a nuclear bomb detonation: 'Threads' is IMO better, and worth checking out.

Is there any evidence that this could be cropped in the Bluray to fit the widescreen TVs?

The 80's definitely had some nice mini-series. Centennial is one of my favorites, although technically that was what 78 or 79? Looking forward to seeing what this looks like. It was kind of big deal when I lived in Japan. Something that I found funny was my Japanese girl friend told me that most Japanese hated the lead actress for whatever reason? I guess no matter where you live there is celebrity gossip lol.

I wonder if this will be in its original five-parts with opening and ending credits after each episode? The dvd is edited as a full movie.

I watched this religiously. I couldn't wait to get to school the next day to talk with my friends about the previous night's episode!

My dad, who was stationed in Japan when he was in the air force, would point out little nuances I think most audiences wouldn't pick up on ("You see how he keeps his eyes on him when he bows? That's considered insulting, as it's a sign of mistrust.").

I contacted WB a while back regarding "Roots." I informed them (they didn't know!) that some scenes are missing from openings when they were combined for syndication/vhs/dvd. These scenes played during the opening cast credits. One features George Hamilton singing a song in a carriage, and one features a longer scene of Chicken George arriving home from England. The end credits are messed up now too, with names being combined and others left off completely. The original opening featured the hardcover book rising up and "AN ABC NOVEL FOR TELEVISION" in the bottom corner. This is a television milestone, and I would love for it to be restored to its original broadcast version. Here is how it originally aired:

Night One: Two hours
Night Two: Two hours
Night Three: One hour
Night Four: One hour
Night Five: One hour
Night Six: Two hours
Night Seven: One hour
Night Eight: Two hours

I'd love to see both on BD, they're the films that started my lifelong interest in WWII.

Would be great if Paramount released Winds, but they don't control W&R on video and never have, it is controlled by MPI Home Video, a boutique outfit.
