This is extras free apart from trailer and TV sport. There is talk the director producing a longer cut, however the film is already around 3 hours. Criterion also usually include interviews and commentaries so would expect those on any future SE.

I just finished coming back from this. It is truly one remarkable film.

I cannot wait for Criterion, as I feel they are the studio for such a film. The "special edition" will more than likely be a director's cut, featuring 40 extra minutes of footage. It's much needed, in my opinion, for two reasons. First, I did not want the film to end, and secondly, the film is a bit ambiguous with time. We are not really told how much time has passed.

I really want to see this and it isn't playing anywhere near me so I won't wait for the special edition. I'll just get the Artificial Eye Blu and save like $5 then get Criterion's re-release when it comes out.

This is what may appear later on, I remember reading this and maybe their keeping it hush hush for a special edition later on, plus of course special features.

This is probably thanks to Certified Copy, right? Instead of just making everyone wait a really long time, put out a temp, lower-priced, movie-only edition.

I'm not following… Certified Copy (to my knowledge) only had 1 Criterion release, and it's certainly not bare bones.

It's my understanding that IFC Films wanted this out to time with the Awards Show season.

Thanks for posting the actual link.

I do not want a sequel to this film. The ending is perfect and should be kept as such. Plus, I doubt either of the two would return after their negative experience with him.

Blue Is the Warmest Color is currently the only title from Criterion's February batch available for pre-order on Amazon. They are really keen to cash in on this sucker.

Thumbs up Thanks to Criterion for announcing a special edition with this press release

Criterion must be commended for announcing that their releasing this on February 11th, but is bare bone and saying that their releasing this in a special edition at a later date.

It's worth cashing in on. It's fantastic and absolutely thought provoking.

I can't remember thinking so much about a film after seeing it.

It took a long time for Criterion's Certified Copy Blu to be released.

Glad you loved the film, and yes, even at three hours (which it doesn't feel like) I didn't want the film to end. Adele Exarchopoulos. What a find. Such a vivid, beautiful depiction of sexual awakening, first love, and heartbreak.

Is there anything to substantiate that a director's cut of the film is in the works? I was the under the impression the theatrical release was the final cut.

Ughhh as much as I'd love to own this as soon as February I think I'm going to wait till the special edition is released.

I was planning to buy the bare bones release as I thought it would just be extras on the later special edition but if it's possibly a director's cut I'll wait until then.

Yes, There is, Abdellatif Kechiche was translated in saying that at the NYFF51 Press Conference for Blue is the Warmest Color. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WOLjfxuPeo#t=230 That's when the question is asked, the actual translated portion is at about 8:10 in the video in regards to the length and the general translated answer is around 7:15. This is what the Translator said "The length of the film came out of my sensing and feeling the rhythm that went with it, and the inner breathing i felt visa-vis the film. You know I tired in proceeding former films to format my scenes, to cut them, to make them fit into something that was more of a classic model and I don't mean that in a derogatory way. I was just trying to fitted into what was a somewhat more standard but I find that the more I go forward in film-making the more I want to allow a film to Breath its natural rhythm and therefore I think that probably in coming years they may not be shorter they'll be longer and in fact in terms of the Final Cut. This cut is shorter than what the final cut will be which will probably be about 40 minutes longer than this one. In terms of improvisation yes that you know I wouldn't call it exactly that but I like to give my actors a great deal of freedom so that sometimes they can carve out a path which maybe one of discovery so that's it." Then the Question about Improvisation is turned to Adèle Exarchopoulos.

My Own Thoughts. I will say, I am tempted on Pre-ordering this release, I am going to watch the price but it's kinda nerve racking when you know that there might be an extended cut. Hopefully Criteron will release the Directors Cut or do type of release like Léon: The Professional, where as most of you may know, it has both Theatrical and Extended Versions (now only hoping for Criteron to release it as a two disc edition) instead of 1 Disc for optimal video quality since Titanic which has an over three hour runtime takes up about 45gb where as the 3D version of that film combined is over 60gb. I know how crazy Criteron with quality which is why I am pushing for if they release both editions of the film to make it two discs, one for each cut. I am euphoric that Criteron is releasing this film, but if they do put both versions into a collection, Criterion I am asking you if you can to make it two discs.

My favorite film of 2013 thus far! I seriously doubt that anything will beat it. I really want to jump on this one (especially considering the price), but if the director's cut will be released later down the line, I'll need to wait for that. Like many of you, I'm hoping that it will include both the theatrical cut and the director's cut.

I'm assuming that it hasn't been confirmed that this "Special Edition" has the director's cut? If the only difference between the two versions is the extras, then I only care about getting this version.
