It could be worse. You could be watching Red Tails.

Can't you just hear the TIE fighter roars in this picture?

I tweeted Matthew Modine and asked him if by chance he may have been asked to do a commentary on this release and he said "Nope". So we can expect the usual bare bones on the extra's.

The release date from the press release shows May 6th, rather than the 16th. That makes more sense since it's a Tuesday, and the 16th was a Friday.

I dunno. It depends how long Warner has been sitting on the HD master. If it was done recently there is hope.

Damn I haven't watch this movie in years. I liked it due to it had my favorite WW2 bomber in it the B-17 so I will have to pick this up first day.

Thumbs up Memphis Belle on Blu-Ray

This is awesome news! Love the movie and have had it in my must have list as soon as it comes out on Blu-Ray for some time now.

A childhood favorite of mine! Probably the first war movie I ever saw. Remember seeing it on an old crappy television in my family's summerhouse when I was 6 or 7 years old. When I was a kid I was a huge war nerd and especially interested in old military airplanes from around the world. Needless to say I wore our VHS copy of this out before I turned 10. Good times!

And that film probably marks the very last time in history so many B-17's were brought together. Today you have to do film like that with studio mock ups and CGI'd airborne formations.

Unfortunately, it's the lack of B-17's that really hurts this movie. The producers gathered 5 B-17's for the movie but one was destroyed in an accident during production. I've always been distracted by the amount of empty sky in this movie.

Only five? For some reason, I always had it in my mind that they had eight of them. That's just my impression though. I have no idea how or where that idea came from. Maybe someone making the film said they tried to collect eight, and in my mind I heard, "We had eight planes."

From IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100133/..._=tt_trv_trv):

There are only five real B-17 flying in the movie. Two were flown in from the US, two came from France, and one was already based in England. One of the French airplanes crashed during filming. Although everyone onboard survived, the aircraft was a total loss in the post crash fire. Only one of the airplanes was a genuine F-model, like the real Memphis Belle, accurate to the time the story is set. All others were G-models, that came later in the war. Two different airplanes played "Memphis Belle" during the movie, one of which is in real life named Sally B.

I agree completely Eddie! I'm still extremely happy about this one coming out this year, I've been waiting for it for awhile and can't wait to replace my DVD copy. I hope that they include the documentary "Belle and the Glory Boys: The Making of Memphis Belle" with this release. I've never seen the documentary but I'd love to watch it. It'd also be great if they included as a bonus feature the original "The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress." I know it's already out on Blu-ray but that'd be great to have them both on one disc!

Can't wait for this. Have had this and a few others in my watch list for years! So when I got the bluray.com reminder this was being released I was pumped the whole day about it. Day 1 purchase for me as well!

Thanks for sharing that Eddie! I've seen parts of it before but not the whole thing.
