Isn't My Bloody Valentine 3D from them? I thought it was pretty succesful and the 3D was amazing.

Considering it was only made for $5 million, it's hardly embarrassing, sadly...They still made a ton of money off the release. But damn, I'm glad to see the found footage thing dying. I liked it in the beginning, but it's become a nightmare now. I hope the genre goes away for some time.

That definitely says that no one is recommending these to anyone and aside from a core fan base opening weekend these movies are irrelevant now.
WIth marketing costs I dont see how these movies are still viable theatrical releases but then again we somehow get a new Jason Statham movie in theaters a few times a year as well so who knows.

I wanna see the receipts.

Cause I've been told this thing was gonna sink like a stone.

Looks like Frozen has a good shot to surpass DM2 $368 million for #3 box office film of 2013. Gravity should top Monsters University $268.5 for #6...

Go Gravity .

Totally agree Walt. If not gone away totally, we can count on less output for this genre. I expect the next PA movie due in October to tank...

BTW, Disney is killing it at the box office. Frozen is another huge property for them now. Well done. I am happy to see an original animated movie doing so well.

We can hope so but it's always tempting for Hollywood to throw money at the genre, since it's so cheap to produce. That is why we keep getting so many entries.

You and your marketing costs... the marketing was basically free. It was done with online platforms. The film has made almost $85 million world wide.......and will make a fortune on Blu/dvd sales. $5 + even if you wanna say $25 for marketing thats $30 total and already $55 million in profit BEFORE WW sales are done AND Blu/DVD sales. So please, take your nonsense elsewhere.

That's not how things work. Studios don't get all the money it makes. Marketing costs of $25 million sound right but those are only domestic advertising costs.
Studios get even less of international theatre grosses.
I am not saying it was an outright failure but I will say it these films keep going the way they are going box office wise it will be far more financially viable to skip a theatrical release all together.
The Saw franchise also had similar very small budgets but they stopped making them because the grosses kept lowering after the third film.
Do you really think the numbers for this are that good ?
Again I am not saying that this movie lost money.
I am saying that based on the grosses of the 4 films that came before in the franchise this movie really could not have done much worse based on the law of diminishing returns .

While America saw that so so film again, I saw Nebraska, I Frankenstein and Devil's Due. All were good to great.

I don't get the hate on some of new films, but silly me......I ACTUALLY watch then before I bash. Crazy huh?

Was I Frankenstein even any good? I saw the runtime and it turned me off. I might go watch it on Tuesday when tickets are $7.

Oh dear, just over eight million this weekend for I, Frankenstein. I thought the trailer looked quite fun. It'll probably break even or make a small profit worldwide as it's very hard for a film to lose money these days...unless they throw away hundreds of millions on a real turkey.

There's a reason I don't fall into what rotton tomatoes says, once the hate train comes it comes in full effect. There's a reason why audience scores are always higher than the critics score.

This is why I prefer to hear peoples opinion on the movie vs reading about a critics opinion.
