What I have found is that the puck is very dependant on a good connection. IMO. When I first bought my apple TV it took for ever to download a movie (rental) even when it had downloaded, when I wanted to watch it, it would buffer for several minutes before starting. Now I have fibre it works better but I don't see why rentals can't just stream.
I would never collect digital movies as I am bluray through and through but the HD quality is acceptable on my bedroom tv when I want to rent something.

By the way, I heard that Amazon may be bringing a streaming box to the market very soon. Wonder how that pans out.

I'm thinking of going with a Mac Mini instead of a Apple TV. I much rather download the file then stream.

I've got an Apple TV, but I only download to my Mac Pro and then use iTunes Home Sharing to 'stream' locally across my home network. However downloading (HD) does take up a lot of file space...!

I do the same thing. Here soon, I'm going to have to make choices on which films do I store on the hard drive to stream locally and which ones I just stream from the Cloud.

I'll probably have that soon too, since I've used 3 of the 4 hard drive bays inside my machine and have two external portable hard drives hooked up via USB...

(I have ~7.5TB of storage, 6TB of which is iTunes video content - or 5.75TB if I discount SD (!)... Perhaps I should stop expanding!)
