it was mention either in the arrow thread or the old kickstarter thread, that those who backed the project would have their copies shipped once they arrived at Arrow offices. which would be before the street date. I do not know if they will ship before or at the same time as those who bought it directly from the arrow store.

I would guess they would ship the backers first, then the orders from the Arrow store

Zavvi has this for £69.99 with a 10% coupon. Add 10SOON. [£63.98 total with S&H.]

Given this is a 1,000 copy limited edition and earlier in the thread only a couple of hundred remain unsold, ordering from Zavvi could be a gamble as they tend to be hit and miss on pre orders. Either ship early or not at all eg Gregory's Girl from Second Sight they were cheapest but no stock even a week after release date so I gave up and went with Amazon, and my copy should be here tomorrow.

This doesn't ship until about 6/30. [unless you meant Gregory's Girl]

I just provided an option for those seeking the cheapest price. If you really want it, you would already have ordered it.

As I said was referring to Gregory's Girl.
Wanted to warn people that with this a genuine limited edition, you are taking a gamble pre ordering from Zavvi as they don't always get stock of titles.

My copy is guaranteed as one of the Kickstarter backers. If I wanted to guarantee this now would buy direct from Arrow or Moviemail or Amazon. Zavvi may have a good price but if you never get a copy is not much use.

No copy is guaranteed until people have theirs in hand. Not even the Kickstarter backers. No one knows where those 1000 copies have been dispersed to. I would assume Arrow has the bulk of them then Amazon then the rest.

Anyone who's waited this long to order this limited release set doesn't deserve it at any price.

I imagine the backers will take priority. After all, they are the ones that helped this boxset be what it is.

There is no chance whatsoever of individual Kickstarter backers missing out - Arrow is keen to try this fundraising method again, so it's very much in their interest that this proceed like clockwork.
I hope Arrow use Kickstarter for the Preston Sturges boxed set instead of strictly relying on sales of Sullivan's Travels.

I'm sure the Kickstarter copies will go out first but once they are in the hands of the Post Office, all bets are off.

As far as I can make out, not only is the film making its HD debut, so is Preston Sturges. So far none of his directorial or writing efforts have made it to Blu-ray. I Married a Witch is as close as we get, which he co-produced (albeit, uncredited).

Frankly, anyone who wants to see the box set get a release has no excuse not to pick this up on release, especially with the price Zavvi are listing it at!

In all logic, each retailer has a certain number of pre-orders spots allocated to them. Once they run out of this quota, the pre-order will indicate that it's already sold out, otherwise, it means that the retailer will try to sell more copies that he will get. And usually, it misfires big time.

Furthermore, as Michael B already stated, it would misfire even bigger time if Kickstarter backers wouldn't be guaranteed to get the copy they paid for (though I understood they shouldn't have been debited yet).

What you're saying looks far from the standards & practices I've read so far anyway.

I guess I'll then cancel the pre-order I did this morning...

Joke aside, I love when people say things like these.
"You don't deserve to watch this !"
Yeah, right.

Yeah, right.
What I was trying to imply was, as soon as it was known to only have 1000 copies and if you didn't already order it (through Kickstarter) you should immediately grab it. Look how fast some titles sell out from TT at 3000 copies.

You can't really compare Christine and a £80 Borowczyk boxset, can you ?
It's not the same market, the same price, nor the same reputation.

I gave this some thoughts, it's not a cheap purchase (even if you measure it by its content, it's still £80), I knew nothing of Borowczyk and, let's face it, I have no idea when I'll be watching these in conditions where nobody will look at me and say "how can you be watching this ?!"

Who said anything about Christine? I was simply talking about limitation numbers. If you don't like the subject matter then don't buy it.

There's a reason the limitation is 1000 copies and that's because the Kickstarter program brought in 432 backers and Arrow didn't want to get stuck with a ton of copies that didn't sell so they made the minimum amount which I believe is 1000.

Yeah, right.

and its not always easy do decide what to buy next if the budget is limited. with all the preorders , kickstarter stuff and new releases of the major and small labels all at the same time.

Arrow , MoC , Criterion , BFI , AE , asian movies by various labels , TV shows , anime shows and the releases by the major labels ...

You were talking of titles sold out from TT. One of the most famous to be sold out was Christine, hence my comparison.
I could have said The Fury or Fright Night also which still is my point : some 1000 limited prints won't sell out as fast as some 3000 limited prints.

All in all to say : I'm quite sure people pre ordering now from Zavvi or Amazon.co.uk will get their boxset. And there will certainly be some more left past the release date.

I'm gonna guess this will sell out before it's officially released on 6/30.

A very good online article from Arrow stalwart Daniel Bird (who sounds like a fellow Geordie if the recent Borowcyzk feature on BBC Radio 4's Film Programme is anything to go by?) who informs the reader Boro' was a keen distresser of wood in his design and animation.

There you have it, a true pioneer; not only in film, animation, erotica and literature, but possibly the inventor of 'shabby chic'.

A question on the box design; it's obviously based around a sample of his animation, but I really like the minimal design. Was it Jay Shaw?
