Most overrated movies:

1.Leon: The Professional
-In my opinion this film is awful. It's poorly written, poorly edited, and the action isn't even good. The whole plot is dumb and executed terribly and the relationship between the middle aged man and a 12 year old is really uncomfortable.

2. Avatar
-The only good thing about this movie is the effects. The story isn't necessarily bad, but very poorly written and executed. There are tons of plot holes and on top of it that scene where Colonel Miles is in a giant robot and TAKES OUT A KNIFE is one of the dumbest movie scenes of all time.

3.The Goonies
-This movie is also awful. The movie is poorly directed, poorly acted, poorly written, and on top of it the characters are extremely annoying. In my opinion Chunk is one of the most annoying movie characters of all time. Every second he's screaming and throughout the whole film he's always screwing everything up. I really hate that movie.

4. Resevoir Dogs
-This isn't a bad movie by any means. I'm a huge fan of Tarantino, but this film has got to be one of his weakest works next to death proof. There are some classic scenes and likable characters, but that's about it. All of the dialogue goes on for too long that doesn't develop character or moves the story along, a lot of the camera angles are drawn out, and most of the story is predictable.

5.Apocalypse Now
-STOP PLEASE DON'T KILL ME! I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this but whatevs. I am a big fan of Francis Ford Coppola's work and the Godfather Trilogy is one of the best trilogy's of all time. However, this film is very good, but is it really as great as everyone says it is? The acting is average(aside from Marlon Brando), the story isn't that intriguing, and in my opinion there are Vietnam movies that surpass it (Full Metal Jacket, The Deer Hunter). Not to mention, the film moves incredibly slow and can get exhausting at times. Again, this is not a bad film. In fact, it's a great one. I really appreciate the fantastic cinematography and well written screenplay. Though one of the best films? Eh......I'm not so sure it deserves a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What are some films that are overrated to you?

As soon as people are aware of my favorite movies, they become overrated.

Easy, TITANIC. I HATE THAT FILM. We laughed in the theater throughout, and cheered when Billy Zane slapped Rose.
What a horrible person that character was. Nothing but a selfish *****. She didn't mind spending his money, but she complained about being with him.
She didn't mind being flown in to tell her story, but she throws away the proof that someone else needed - *****. The last shot of her sleeping (I hope dying) in bed shows she had time to pack all pictures of HERSELF and what she did THROUGH OUT HER LIFE.
The film says the ship left from Liverpool to America, so why was did the music have sound Irish? Yeah, it was built in Belfast, but that had nothing to do with the story. The story wasn't even about the Irish. So why did James Horner re-use the theme he wrote for PATRIOT GAMES? (Which was about the IRA)?!?!
Oh, and the best.... after the ship goes down there is this long shot of all the bodies floating in the silent water with the moon in the background... WHERE IS THE FRACKING ICEBURG!!! The ship sunk not the iceburg!
STUPID, STUPID MOVIE.

-Titanic (the sinking of the boat and the sinking of Jack were the only good parts)
-Avatar (cool effects over a Dances With Wolves rewrite)
-Gravity (looks cool but it's just not that great)
-Ryan Gossling and DiCaprio movies (I can't see why people love these guys so much)
-Scorsese films (without sex and violence for shock value, their pretty one dimensional)
-Flight (like Denzel but not here. Hated it)

I know, right?

And, so far, I only see highly entertaining films listed in this thread. I disagree with almost everything being listed.

You cannot be serious? This is perhaps one of the smartest, most creative movies to come out of Hollyweird in a long time. If you are a "current times" movie fan, I could see how this is above your head. If you have a minute, perhaps I could explain it to you. Holy $#!T, I cannot believe the garbage that is put out today that is considered to be good. Enough already. Creativity is long dead.

The list would be too long.

Movies get overrated because of different reasons

Theres those that get overrated because they were 'firsts', films like Seven Samurai, Jaws etc. Some films get overrated because they're 'American', like Citizen Kane. Others get overrated because they make the viewer feel 'smart' like Inception. Still others get overrated because of highly exaggerated special effects, like Gravity and Avatar. Others like 'The Artist' rely on gimmicks.

Theres a variety of reasons. The list of films would be massive

If you honestly think Jaws, Seven Samurai, and Citizen Kane are overrated...well...you fail at understanding film in general.
