I haven't been truly excited for a Spielberg movie since A.I.

...which ended up being somewhat of a disappointment for me.

Oscar Isaac is so hot right now.

...he's on a De Niro in the 70s kind of run.

What was the status before the change?

It was always in development IIRC, I know I saw casting calls looking for Edgardo towards the beginning of the year but I'm not sure if they ever cast anyone. Haven't seen em in a while though, Spielberg's got his plate full at the moment.

He might direct Indy 5 first, and take the release date in May 2019 that was left open by Episode IX.

Harvey Weinstein was developing his own production separate from Spielberg's based on the story, and the two were in a bit of a race. Looks like Mr. Spielberg doesn't have to worry about that competing project from Mr. Weinstein anymore.

Uh-oh. I got a bit ahead of myself.

Status had been "pre-production" before the change, so the update indicates a regression.

Yeah I think that is the plan, and Ford's been talking about Indy every chance he gets (or whenever anyone asks him), so they have to get going on that sooner rather than later. I just hope Oscar Isaac stays attached to this movie.

Thanks. In other words this is being put on hold then.

Yup, and Ford’s not getting any younger. The main team too, John Williams and now Michael Kahn are slowing down. But unlike Ford, they don’t have to be in front of the camera. The script is ready and they all like it. I hope we get an announcement soon.

Highly doubtful, unless it's some kind of very basic announcement teaser. And even then, I don't see Spielberg making time for this til after Indy 5, which means at least another year.

I wish this were actually going to happen. It sounds fascinating. Oh well.

I recently re-watched War Horse for the first time in several years and it was a significantly better film than I remembered. Funny how opinions can change with subsequent viewings. I was in love with every single moment and every single frame.

Should give War Horse another try, I thought it was OK but nothing great when I saw it in theaters. (It was also overshadowed by the amazingness of Tintin.)

I walked out of the theater thinking along the same lines. I thought it was sub-par Spielberg with some great WWI footage in the middle. Now I love it. ...I don't know, I have no explanation.
