And let's not forget, Dredd is hundreds of times the better movie.
It doesn't matter, because they're both awesome. We got two great movies, so I don't know why anyone's complaining.

The Raid Remake Gets Frank Grillo to Star & Joe Carnahan Directing!
By Max Evry on February 15, 2017

The Raid remake gets Frank Grillo to star & Joe Carnahan directing!

XYZ Films has posted a new video to Twitter in which actor Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Grey, The Purge franchise) and director Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team, Smokin’ Aces) announce they are boarding The Raid remake! Based on 2011’s Indonesian action sensation directed by Gareth Evans, the original was released in America as The Raid: Redemption and stars martial artists Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian (who later appeared in The Raid 2 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Check out the announcement here!

The Raid tells the story of an elite DEA FAST team that becomes trapped in a tenement run by a notorious drug lord, his two highly-violent martial arts killers, and a personal militia armed with machetes and machine guns. Stranded on the 6th floor with no way out, the team must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission.

Back in 2014, it was announced that Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) would helm the remake with Battleship, John Carter and Lone Survivor star Taylor Kitsch in the leading role and Brad Ingelsby writing the script.

As in 2014, the English-language remake of Gareth Evans’ The Raid will be made by XYZ Films, which produced the original film as well. Evans will produce the project alongside Carnahan. It is unknown who will pen the remake, although Carnahan will likely work on the screenplay.

Carnahan is still lined up to helm Sony Pictures’ threequel Bad Boys for Life with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. Grillo just completed a trio of films, including the action thriller Wheelman, Akiva Goldsman’s horror film Stephanie and the sci-fi flick Beyond Skyline.

They're calling it a "reimagining" instead of remake. Regardless, we already had Dredd (which was amazing).

Cool, I like Frank Grillo. Huge fan of both Indonesian movies, eagerly awaiting a third one but this remake might hold me over till Evans decides it's time (which won't be too long hopefully).

This remake will never come close to the OG ofcourse but I'm interested in how it turns out. This better be an R-rated movie...

Sounds better than the other proposed remake, but I'm still not seeing the point.

They should get a bunch of martial arts experts who can do stuff on camera without the need for constant cuts or shaky cam, like Tony Jaa, Michael Jai White, Gary Daniels and Scott Adkins.

I'm unsure. The two movies were perfection, this is kind of pointless, although I like Frank Grillo.

I've seen first Raid and wasn't impressed. Some random, unmemorable indonesian guy as a lead didn't help either. I am not interested in sequel, but I can give remake a chance.

Everyone has their own opinion. I personally think watching Dredd and Mad Max Fury Road are quite a mediocre watching experience but if you look at my collection I own them both. I don't know why people think Iko isn't a good actor. While he isn't classically trained, his performances are quite convincing. Example: The scene where he is being chased by the machete gang and is asking the man to let him in the apartment.

Dredd and Fury Road are both 10/10 and movies of the year for me.

Maybe. But it looks like the least random Indonesian guy is till random and unmemorable

I dont know if he is or not, I just forgot about him when the credits started to roll. I wouldn't even recognized him now.

The Raid looked like a bunch of circus monkeys still jumping and kicking and jumping and kicking and jumping... and I was like:

Haven't seem Dredd. Can't judge. Max bored the hell outta me. 2/10 IMO. Everyone was frothing at the mouth about how it was a great throwback. I went and all I saw was an Orange & Teal bore fest that botched the practical effects and stunts so bad that they looked like CG.

The Raid however looked like well trained athletes trying to make their stamp in Hong Kong's Golden era.

I don't like Hong Kong's and other Asian movies in general. That may have something do with it

(and Mad Max Fury Road is probably one of the best looking movies I've ever seen, if not THE best)
