Good decision. Katzmaier gave it a fair review. Defiantly a very good picture with excellent built-in audio. We just took our store demo down to make room for the Shootout displays, but I miss it already.

Strictly for form fit, value and pq I slightly prefer Samsung's HU8550.

Hey I was just wondering something about the shootout. If the best 1080p and best 4K are going to square off against each other using 1080p and 4K material, what is going to happen if the best 1080p and 4K are OLED?

Not many people are going to be jumping on the OLED wagon yet, I'm wondering if both, or even one, is part of the King of 1080p vs. King of 4K comparison, that the comparison will leave a pretty big gap for 99% of the buyers looking at the shootout results.

Just wondering if this has been considered...?

The zt60 plasma (and others like the vt60, f8500 etc) have consistently been viewed as better then any 4k set currently available. Oled is the clear champion in many areas (namely contrast and black levels), but there are still apparently several areas whereby you can tell it is a new tech that puts 'ye old' plasma ahead of it still. This is based on what I have read as whilst I have experience with plasmas, my experience with oleds is extremely limited.

What is going to happen if one tech wins the square off in both areas, well progress will happen. Plasma is seemingly still king overall but is only available in (can only do) 1080p. So all that will happen is it will go from the best 4k set bieng an oled and the best 1080p set being a plasma to both the best 4k and 1080p set being oleds. LCD's do have the potential to compete, but I sadly doubt this will happen.

I hope that answers your question.

It answers it and makes sense from a purist POV. But I'm not sure if will answer it from a realist POV. If a 1080p OLED beats out a 1080p plasma for the 1080p crown that is fine, I don't really care either way. However from a trustability POV, and price, not sure if OLED is there yet.

July 19-20? Sounds good. I'm 50-50 on if I'll be able to make this year's shootout. I'll know the closer we get to that date.

Actually, it's more like 60-40 to me going.

UPDATE: I won't be going this year.

Thumbs up

Just this second I was able to confirm our 2014 TV Shootout date for Saturday, August 16th beginning at 6PM and Sunday, August 17th at 3PM.

I’ve been working very hard this year to make our 10th annual TV Shootout evolve and ascend with the times. To that end I have some very exciting news to announce:

Dr. Larry Weber and Joe Kane will be joining us for the Shootout this year! They will be making special presentations that will interest our followers and the industry.

For now here’s one more change for this year I can share. Our agenda has been upgraded; the manufacturer’s trainers who have been product feature presenters at all of our previous TV Shootout events will be replaced with each manufacturers’ senior executive and or a factory engineer.

More information to come soon!

Happy July 4th!

-Robert

Most folks enjoy bring the Internet apps to their TV, but not everyone.

Some of our customers ask us not to connect their TV to the Wi Fi or hard wire as they want privacy and do not want to integrate the Internet to the TV.

It's your choice.

I would only have it connected just for the FW updates for the set.

Will the F8500 be at the shootout (since it's last years winner)?
