YES! I will still wait for this as I rent the theatrical version just to relive it again until then.
I assume this should be out around November.

I was going to wait for the EE myself, but saw the Theatrical used on Ebay for $12.00 so I went for it. Hopefully they release the EE with same kind of packaging as the first Hobbit. Nicely done.

Indeed, another lenticular slipbox would be nice for sure.

They won't skimp on the packaging now, if the EE case isn't the same then there will be uproar across all of nerd-dom! I'll have to stick with the UK one though because the US EE was a lot slimmer, IIRC. (Not that it makes a difference in terms of content, I'm just reminding myself not to import TDOS:EE!)

I wish he'd CGI over those awful video shots in the barrel scene.

The whole barrel sequence/movie/trilogy was shot on "video." :P
But I know what you mean, the GoPro shots are distracting.

One scene that definitely runs longer is the scene of Gandalf and Radagast in the tombs. They showed an extended version of the scene on the live event back in April or March of last year so hopefully they incorporate the full scene into this longer version .
Also I am guessing we will certainly get more Laketown and mirkwood extensions.
I also wanna know when we are going to get a trailer or glimpse of the 3rd film.
Hopefully at the latest we get a trailer with Godzilla or Edge of Tomorrow

I'd like to see just the barrel scene extended to 3 more movies plus extended editions and more appendices!

Man, Gandalf's material -- as well as the abundance of pointless Orcs -- is what really bugged me about the film. Why exactly did we need to go to the tombs of the Ringwraiths?

To verify that the dagger was indeed taken from the tomb that was seen in the first film.

If you're not a fan, why are you posting on this thread?

I suspect there is backlash over the name change here? There's already some on PJ's Facebook account.

For me, it makes sense.

So this will come out around November, I guess?

I really like watching the making of documentaries of these movies.

It isn't a scam. Scams usually involve some sort of trickery. No one has to buy both, and diehards can choose to invest an extra $20, or so, if they want to. It isn't breaking anyone's bank.
The Fellowship of the Ring was the first time there was a Scam with this. It was also the only time there was a Scam with these.

No one knew before opening the DVD that there would be an Extended Cut later that same year.

Um are you sure. I remember the theatrical version of fellowship not coming out until August and the DVD having a trailer for the extended version on it so people had to know.

no scam what-so-ever. we've known from day one that this was coming.....people that wanted one or the other have all of the information right off the bat to make that decision.

same exact process we've gone through for all 3 lord of the rings movies and the 1st hobbit movie.

It had a Trailer and an Insert. But you did just prove my ppoint. The only way to know about the Extended was to buy the DVD and open it.

Not everyone wants to own both cuts. That's the reason I'm waiting on the EE.
I'm kind of with Edword on this and waiting for the extended cut. I'm just hoping we see another digibook to go with the first film. As far as it being a scam? Melodramatic much? No one is twisting anyone's arm to purchase the Extended Editions and everyone knows the way the trilogy works by now. We'll most likely see another edition when all of the films are tied up too. I wouldn't be surprised if it is in new packaging to match or include the LOTR Extended Editions. It is marketing 101.

Nice! Hopefully WM does a digibook for this, although I doubt it.
