A few very elementary questions I have here for Mr. Joshi :-
What kind of a source are the restorers settling for? The film was released in 70mm. I hope that is in a passable condition to be taken for restoration. And what about the sound? Recall, the film had a multi-channel sound equipment. Any word on whether the same is being reproduced? Any word on the status at all? How is the progress coming up? Is there really a chance for it's release, or our you just putting an extension to this mal-adaptive day dreaming we've been watching since forever? At this point, I don't really care about extra features, or the directors' cut version to be sourced and restored; however, I find the imperative need to have a carefully restored and re-mastered Blu-ray; please! Also, you mentioned Mughal-E-Azam having an HD master in Shemeroo's hands. I sincerely hope they've taken a fresh scan from original B&W negatives, and not the oh-so-sorry colorized version. Please shed more light on this. ![]() |

i dont like the colors here. lot of tweaking it shows. Not to mention overworked sound too. Why kill the soul of the film this way ?
these changes are exactly what was not done for HAHK which looks fab...at least in ScreenShots. |

Agree, may be they have colored (read re-colored) some of the elements, increased saturation (grass, trees, sky, dresses) like they do to convert any B/W movie to color. Don't know it's all done intentionally, to look this like new movies. By the way as it was released in Dolby Atmos, I wish they release its Blu-ray including original audio track.

What’s the idea of re-coloring a colored movie? The original DVD has a lot more detail than this so called HD version.
SyDVD.jpg SyHD.jpg And to add insult to injury, StarGold shows its commercials right in the middle of a song. Sy Holi.jpg Thanks, but no thanks! I want a Blu-ray for the 1975 movie “Sholay” with original AR, audio and colors. Last edited by rajkapoor; 08-18-2016 at 03:47 PM. |

Star Gold Aspect Ratio looks better than DVD, I am not sure if any DVD version was released in this AR. Don't know whose idea it was to re-color/re-record the AV, everything was best in the original. Video may have some blemishes, spots, scratches which should be the part of this restoration, and I guess there was nothing to re-do in the music which was already superior than this one. I wish any foreign studio work on this as it should be. Original AR video with 6-Track Audio, I won't mind if they release 3-Disc limited edition with this new 3D Sholay as a bonus. ![]() Disc 1 > Original Sholay (nothing artificial) Disc 2 > 2D-3D (whatever is in the new) Disc 3 > Sholay-The Making, Interviews, Promotional material they had used, Posters ![]() |

So I guess I'm the only one who liked the new color palette. No former DVD of Sholay has ever reached that caliber. It looks very life-like and natural. It sure does look better than other movies that have been restored on Shemaroo- like the Hrishikesh Mukherjee bunch. Shemaroo seems to render the colors in such a way that the fluorescent colors look louder than the rest, which I really dislike.
But oh, that audio mastering is despicable. |

Sholay was released theatrically with two different aspect ratios. The wide release was the 35mm print with an aspect ratio of 1.37:1. But there was also a more limited release of 70mm prints with an aspect ratio of 2.20:1 Therefore technically both aspect ratios qualify as the original aspect ratio. But although the movie was shot in 35mm 1.37:1, it is the blown up 70mm 2.20:1 print that probably qualifies as the director's cut, since it was also the substantially longer version of the movie with six track audio. So if there is to be just 'one' original release for Blu-ray, then it should be the 70mm Six track stereo version.
