Just do what I do, tell yourself "self, you will only rebuy the really good movies and all new releases that you want on Blu". Then go right out after watching your first BD and buy every title in Blu that you can get your hands on. As of now over 150 BD's I have are rebuys. God this is sickness!!

C6 Z06 - I am curious after looking at your sig.
Do you watch your Blu-ray movies on the PS3 or on the standalone Sony BDPS300 player?

After having watched all these superb Blu-ray releases, I am buying all the movies I like again on Blu-ray. Standard DVDs are just not good enough anymore. :0

I definitely swap out all of my movies that I really like, but they have to sort of be an 8 out of 10 on my own personal ratings.

the problem with this is, when blu wins the format war, no matter when it happens, at some point the blu cases will be gotten rid of. this is, of course, when it becomes the format of choice over dvd as well. the blu cases are being used for style and to show there is a difference, etc...but eventually they won't be any longer.

Traded in my entire collection of 120 DVD's at Blockbuster to buy the PS3 60g for $120 when it was $799. Go Blu and don't look back!

Yeah, it was awesome! It was a promotion to trade in your DVD's back in April. They gave you at minimum $5 per DVD no matter what.

I have a few movie already that I more than double dipped on for the Blu version, Halloween, Sleepy Hollow and Close Encounters are the main ones. I probably will replace a lot of them for the Blu version, but at the same time it will only be for ones that I truly love like the titles I listed above.

I mix it up Zak, it just depends which room I'm in. I also just added a laptop with Blu player and HDMI out as well as picked up 3 Panny BD10A's the other day (two are gone to friends). Out of all these the PS3 is still the quickest loading with the least amount of "problems". I plan on picking up the new Panny BD30 in a week or so, and that will be my main player for awhile.

I have been rebuying on a case by case basis. I try to buy only Blu-rays that i know I'll watch again and again. Of course I seem to remember having a similar plan when I bought a DVD player and that went straight out the window.

The blue cases are here to stay my friend. They're not only used to differentiate Blu-rays from HD DVD's but also to differentiate from DVD's as well. They're unique looking and are favored by most of the Blu-ray fans over the bulkier DVD cases. You cannot overlook it's space saving ability.

I am slowly replacing as many as I can but I will not sell off my old DVDs even though it means having 2 copies of the same movie. Heres why I am not 100% sure Bluray will win in fact I dont even think HDDVD will win I will get bashed for this but I think this will end up like the laser disc. Upconversion dvd players are becomming very popular and cheap. People just changed over from VHS to DVD 5 years ago now they are being ask to do it again with 2 competing formats it wont happen. I am taking a risk just buying Blurays but Im a tech head that wants the best. I also know the average joe who isnt into it will purchase an upconversion while not true HD it cleans a DVD up pretty good. My PS3 upconverts to a DVD to 1080P. Laser disc was miles ahead of VHS so was the betamax still the public wasnt ready for a format change. I think with 2 formats adding to the confusion will just end up being a niche market for tech heads and movie ethusastics.
If that happens most of you trading your DVDs in will end up haing to buy them back if bluray is phased out. It is to early to sell off your DVDs I would hold onto them until we see where the market is heading.

I love watching movies at home and I already have a fairly large collection of 385 DVD's.

When I started buying Blu-ray movies I made myself a promise that I would not buy any Blu-ray releases of movies that I already owned on DVD but I have already broken this rule and now with all of the Spielberg movies coming out on Blue I'm starting to worry that I will collapse and buy everything again on Blu-ray!

What's your stance on buying Blu-rays if you already own the DVD?

Zak
my stance is.... REPLACE THEM!!!!

Just a thought: laserdisc and Betamax both suffered limitations in uninterrupted playing time that the mass market was never going to stomach as long as there was an alternative.

A. Your PS3 does NOT upconvert normal dvd's to 1080p. If this were so, blu-rays would be obsolete. There's not enough information on the disk for a refresh rate like that.

B. Blu is going to take time. It's expensive and like you said, people just changed and are finally getting the hang of DVD's. (Even some still don't get it =0). But with the death of analog signals coming soon, A LOT of people are upgrading their tv's and saying goodbye to the old tubes. And that's a FACT. Down the line as more hdtv's are sold, blu-ray standalones will continue to steadily decrease little by little and will become more available to the avg consumer.

and C. IT's not as huge of a change as VHS or DVD to laser disc or anything of that sort. People know how to use DVD's so they'll know how to use blu. Since most of the general population is mildly retarded, they'll be pleased to know it's the same system. 1. Take disc out of case. 2. place disc in player 3. play disc

woo!
