There really WAS a totally different cast envisioned for Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown", in the beginning...
I think it turned out fine like it is, but it's fun to imagine the original cast... Pam Grier as Jackie and Samuel L. Jackson as Ordell were pretty much always that way, but the supporting cast was originally Robert De Niro as the ATF agent/cop Ray Nicolette, Sylvester Stallone as Louis the dense sidekick of Jackson, and Harvey Keitel as Max Cherry, the bail bondsman. Some other Tarantino might-have-beens include: Mickey Rourke as Mister Blonde in "Reservoir Dogs" and Butch the boxer in "Pulp Fiction"; James Woods as Mister Pink; Warren Beatty for Bill in "Kill Bill"; Leonardo DiCaprio for Hans Landa; Kevin Costner or Kurt Russell for a role in "Django Unchained" that wound up cut out completely after both actors passed on it; Sascha Baron Cohen for a role that was cut from "Django Unchained"; Tom Cruise in Brad Pitt's role in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". Also, Harvey Weinstein at Miramax wanted Daniel Day-Lewis for Vincent Vega in "Pulp Fiction". Tarantino opposed this, and always wanted John Travolta; Tarantino won. Patricia Arquette was briefly announced for the role of The Bride in "Kill Bill", after Uma got pregnant. Tarantino decided to wait for Uma. James Woods claims he didn't know he'd been offered Mister Pink in "Reservoir Dogs", because his agent allegedly withheld the script from him because there was no good 'monetary offer' involved. It is said after Tarantino exploded a couple of years later, that Woods finally heard about this, and fired his agent. Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler were briefly considered for roles in "Inglourious Basterds". I assume without confirmation that Sandler was considered for Eli Roth's role, while Murphy may have been considered for Pitt's role. Mickey Rourke claims he was considered for Aldo Raine, as well. |

![]() Daniel Day-Lewis pursued the role of Vincent as well, a rare move on his part. And Quentin originally wanted either Paul Newman or Gene Hackman to play Max Cherry in Jackie Brown. |

Lol. They couldn't get Patricia Arquette so they hired two of her siblings instead.

Maybe Keitel was more actively pursuing Max Cherry from Tarantino, than the other way around. Apparently, Keitel was angry that he didn't get it. And I can't fathom why Stallone turned down Louis. He had just started to decry his action hero image, and talked about wanting to be a serious actor again. He gained all this weight and did "Cop Land", and then had a chance to do Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" and turned it down. It didn't take long for him to want to run back to being an action star, again. Not enough money in the indies, I suppose. In fact, it took a little while, and him returning to tried and true Rocky and Rambo stuff to get popular again, after all of that. |

Pumpkin-Gary Oldman Honey Bunny-Jennifer Jason Leigh Vincent Vega-Alec Baldwin Jules Winfield-Laurence Fishburne Butch Coolidge-Sean Penn Fabian-Julie Delpy Lance-John Cusack Jody-Lili Taylor Mia Wallace-Pam Grier The Wolf-Al Pacino Captain Koons-Tommy Lee Jones Marcellus Wallace-Samuel L. Jackson Jimmy is not on the wishlist but I would replace Quentin with Eric Stoltz, as they had a bet to see who would play Jimmy/Lance. |

I always thought it was weird that Nic Cage wasn't in 'Pulp Fiction'. Interesting to read that he was considered for several roles. I definitely would've preferred him as Jimmy instead of Tarantino giving himself a vanity cameo. Tarantino just sounds so smug and self-impressed delivering his own dialogue.

I can see Cage as Vincent, actually. It might be a bit much after Wild at Heart, but he’d still be the right kind of cool and funny at that point.

What if...
Quentin Tarantino’s BOOGIE NIGHTS (released in 1997 still) Dirk Diggler: Leonardo DiCaprio (PTA’s original choice!) Jack Horner: Robert Forster Amber Waves: Daryl Hannah... or Pam Grier? Rollergirl: don’t know. If I set this in the present day, it’d be Margot Robbie, though. Reed Rothschild: Christian Slater Maurice Rodriguez: Cheech Marin Scotty J.: stumpt as well Buck Swope: Samuel L. Jackson Little Bill: Steve Buscemi Becky Barnett: Vivica A. Fox Todd Parker: Timothy Olyphant Floyd Gondolli: Harvey Keitel The Colonel James: Lawrence Tierney Rahad Jackson: David Carradine |

I'll go with the cast that I think would've worked better at the time of making 'The Bonfire of the Vanities'
Sherman McCoy - Pierce Brosnan Larry Kramer - Albert Brooks or Dan Akroyd Peter Fallow - David Thewlis Rev Bacon - Eddie Murphy Judge Kovitsky - Eli Wallach F. Murray Abraham can stay as Dick Weiss, he was the best casting in the movie. Melanie Griffith didn't bug me, but Kathleen Turner might've been better though. |
